I remember having a fairly decent XC mountain bike and being far fitter than I am now, there was this guy just sprinting away from me on a PACE, was pedalling my ass off trying to chase him down and he just killed me.
Dunno if it was the bike or him (suspect it was both), but the bike looked cool when he was kicking my ass.
