  • Have it tattooed?
    Just a thought,
Or branded, get metal die. heat it up and brand the saddle

  • if it's a leather seat mayeb take it to someone like;

    Scorpio Embossing

          Unit 8 Leyton Business Centre,

    hell yeah! =D

  • I have a leather embossing letter set which you are welcome to borrow. I am not sure how craft able you are but it is a little tricky to line up perfect, you would need to practice a few times first.

  • Oh and there is only one font so I guess you either like it or don't.

  • Hey atomic.a what's this kit like? You got a link for where I can get one?

thank you!, Im pretty much 0 craft able but have a few friends who could help out.. Im looking into a few other possibilities of a professional doing it to save all the hassle, I'll get back to you when I have more info - thanks again, very kindly of you :)

  • I can probably do it (coz I'm arty) but it's a case of getting a suitable saddle that the leather can be removed/replaced, i.e. not welded to the saddle base..

    Skully, you're Mr. saddle . . . any ideas ?

  • Oh no I'm not. I'm Mr Butcher of Saddles. I am a saddle's worst nightmare. You can see them quake when I'm near.

I was hoping there's a way of embossing a saddle as is, with a small handheld thing. I'd like to stamp my chops with 'skullychops'.

Get a bunch of copper plates made up cheap (stamp embossed) and a rivet gun.

  • Skully I got it in the worlds best shop Tokyu Hands in Tokyo (obviously). It is a small hand held chisel type thing. You need to change the end every time you want a new letter. You could probably emboss a saddle as is without removing the leather etc.. Might need to get the leather a bit wet as it is quite thick on a brooks saddle. I can up load some pictures when I get home later if you are interested, you could see the font as well then.

  • Atomic.a thanks yeah I'd be well interested in seeing it, but don't go to Tokyo much (ever!) and would need my own one, for use whenever so I couldn't really ask to borrow yours. So no hurry!
Tynan not sure how I'd start this but, yep, that's what I'm talking about.
Any suggestion how I turn your inspirational string of words into real copper letters, please? Ta!

  • These sound like the same thing but it is hard to tell with no picture.
They also seem quite keep to me, if they are what I think.

Near the bottom of the page.

  • They may also do the copper plate stuff for you.

  • Yeah I know I gotta JFGI, I have been looking around a bit.

    That looks wicked!

These guys do some of the best leather tooling i have seen - not cheap but unlimited possibilities

  • This is looking excellent! Means I could offer personalised saddles for people, which makes em less nick-able too. Only thing is, how to support the leather underneath to make the stamping actually work.

  • wow^ that's a whole 'nother level!

  • Re: saddle-butchery.
Is it possible to 're-mold' an old Brooks to something like its original shape? I'm thinking, soak in water, pack out to achieve desired shape, leave to dry.. Anyone tried this? Skully?

  • wow^ that's a whole 'nother leather!

    fixed

You need to do an evening of Googlizing.

I think the search terms might be "custom brass copper embossed plates tags labels"

    http://www.brassname.com/Decorative-plates-brass-custom-3.html

Rivet guns you can get from anywhere, quite cheap.

Maybe think about adapting something more readily available, like custom made dog tags or metal / enamel badges, there are loads of companies who are set up to make custom die cast metal badges:

Maybe get a dies struck lapel pin (no colour) in a soft metal like a brass or copper ?
