I like the look of this frame, but I was thinking, would it be possible to buy the frame unpainted and then just coat it in something (clearcoat?, is that what that is?) to stop it from rusting but without actually painting it?

• me too, actually I want to get the unpainted frame, let it get rusty and then clearcoat it, a la like the fixie inc one;

• Ye, it'd be cool to have a frame which you could just thrash because it didn't matter if it got scratched, plus it'd be far less appealing to thieves, I reckon.

• WTF?

if you scratched the clearcoat your bike would fall to bits.

honestly I don´t care whether it repel theft, I just like how the rust look, proper rusty frame with shiny compound would look smashing my laddies.

I was under the impression that scratching the clearcoat is quite hard? took me age to removed the clearcoat from the Pista I must says.

• I really like the look of that frame - lovely fork crown + i like the bb shell. Wouldn't leave it unpainted tho...rust does terrible things to metal i hear.

• nice job. not a fan of the web at the back of the BB, but the rear drops are lovely.

this isn't a carhartt frame?!?

Long Shen LR15 track ends from Ceeway is my guess

• Looks v.good but what is grey filler at top tube/head tube joint?Would like to see something brassy lookin

• Lugs are Lon Shen for sure.

Your bike's chrome!

When you scratch a (normal) bike, and mark the paint... your scratching clear and painted coats. It happens to my bikes all the time.

:P

• You mean all the bike don't have chrome underneath the paintjob? what sort of world are we living in?!

• so, has anyone ridden this frameset? very tempted. I'm looking for a steel, luggged, new track frame at a reasonable price.

• If you like this you'll like the Kazane frames TokyoFixedGear have. Very similar, but with seriously lush paint. I think they go for £300ish sheets, which sound like a lot but it's not compared with say... the budget deffecet. ;-)

• 335 quid for a lugged tight frame sound pretty good, especially over the surly which onlyhave a lugged fork.

• Surly = Renee Zellweger (talented, useful, good to know for years to come).
Kazane = Salma Hayek (best sex ever for a week or two).

^this is how i'll review all bike related kit form now on.

• Fixed Gear Gallery review the Alien frame come to think of it;

• I really fucking love how it look raw with a red and blue rims;

I've read about the kazane frames. they are indeed nice. however, I want to build up a frameset with a few vintage italian components that I have (cinelli milano, campy aero seatpost, etc). and a keirin bike, I think, would be better served with DA and Nitto components. I would love to have a vintage italian frameset, but that is out of my budget and I have yet to find anything that isnt rusted or beat to hell. I prefer new with this build. I want a basic lugged steel track frame with tight geometry that I can paint myself. I like the Bob Jackson Vigorelli, but that is out of my price range as well as the Leader HMT 2009 frameset.

The only thing I do not like about the Alien is the bb webbing and the basic 4130 - I'd rather have reynolds 631 or so. But both of these are not a deal breaker by any means. 4130 is just fine.

I am seriously considering an Alien unless I find something else.

• the Bob Jackson is 10 quid more than the Kazane, is that really out of your price range? a tenner more?

• I live in the US and Bob Jackson charges about £120 for int'l shipping. Then UPS charges an additional delivery fee once it's over here.

Was talking to ElDiablo today and he thinks that somebody may start importing alien frames under a different name sometime in the future. More on this as and when it happens.

• fantastic! I really want them to replace the Bianchi Pista frame.

• Just realised that although I am saving up for this frame, I don''t know anything about cro-mo 4130. How does it compare to 531?

• 531 is a shining beacon of light compare to 4130 of which tend to be use in BMX frame for strength as they're considerably stronger than standard steel.

that's why it's quite cheap compare to the other lugged frame such as Bob Jackson, BLB Classic, etc.
