Just got back from friend's birthday weekend trip out to St Briavels around the Welsh Border. Area is far from flat but there's some amazing cycling particularly if your keen to test your hill climbing ability - Wye Valley was stunning. If you're looking for something other than simply road cycling, there's plenty of mountain biking over at the Forest of Dean and Newport is a train ride away if you want to get some track time. We stayed at the YHA which was cheap and good

if you book in advance the train fares are affordable although i wouldn't recommend buying on the day
