  • Hi,

I'd like to pick up a Giant Bowery, just for commuting.
Pearson's have stopped their sale and don't have any mediums left.

Where would be a good place to get one for say, £300?

    cheers
    Ives

  • sorry just read the bit about pearsons which i swear was not there when I first read it.

    Nick

  • Nick - did you actually *read *the original posting?

  • cycle surgery.

  • google it.

  • I think Cycle Surgery sell them for £350, which is a bit steep for me

  • thanks

  • Did you get one? There's a medium one being sold for £200 over on bikeradar;

Talk about disingenuous. He quotes the RRP, yet that means he didn't buy it at that price; otherwise he would have quoted the actual price he bought it at.

My guess is that he bought it in the Pearson's sale, and didn't realise the medium size was so big. If he sells at £220, it means he would have lost £5 on his purchase. Thats my guess, but I'm a cycnic, and distrust most sellers.

EDIT: Buying from someone here on this forum (ASM) is different; as you can ask others for their input, and find out more about the seller.

  • actually got one at Comptons. thanks. Made a few modification. It's pretty good for a winter commuter.

  • Good for you ives. I'm having mine set up as fixed. Van Uden is making me look really bad with the amount of weight he's lost, so its either I kill him, or I make more of an effort. ;)

As for a winter bike.....make sure your bottom bracket is well lubed. Its the single great flaw in the Bowery; and in a wet winter, it will become a problem.

  • ^ udenist!

  • Hi GA2G, far better to kill him. A lot easier, in my book.
    I've heard about the BB.
I'm going to take it out and lube it this w/end.

    cheers

  • Actually, Van my man, your lady is waaaayyyyy nicer than mine.....so a bit of murders should be ok really. :))

And Van.......don't you be calling me a dentist.

    :))

  • Awww, thanks chap! She's far too good for the likes of me, that's for sure!

    :)

  • Just joined so can't start a new post but this is related...

I have a Bowery and am now running it fixed. Have a problem that when I stop using just the pedals, something around the bottom bracket comes loose so that when I pedal hard again I get about a quarter pedal turn of slack before it bites again.

Has anybody experienced anything similar to this/any ideas on what might cause it?

I have removed the hideous chain guard thing which has left some of the bottom bracket which is unthreaded outside of the shell. Don't know if this has anything to do with it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • sounds lock ring is lose

ives good to hear u went to comptons dont forget to go back for the free 6 week service

Sounds like a loose lockring allowing your cog to unwind as you back pedal then wind on again as you pedal foward.

  • Have tried tightening the lockring already but will have another bash later. Is there anything else it could be?

  • Yeah a loose cog combined with a loose lockring. Or a rift in the space-time continuum.

  • Hugely slack chain?

Other than that I'd go for the space-time rift thing- you are probably the first fixed victim of the large hadron colider.

  • dude its a loose cog or lockring, either tighten it or wait and it will tighten itself, either that or your cheap arse strap on the pedal will snap resulting in you crashing into a car and you wont care that your lockring is loose. BASTARD.

  • the new range of '09 Bowery's seem ok.....'specially like the white '84 model and the retro red '72 with its rip off Gios style transfers
