  • Are you actually disputing a Canadian on his knowledge of Canada?

My name isn't Joe, but I am Canadian.

  • I just found the concept of someone disputing Canadian geography with a Canadian amusing.
I wasn't aware that you were Canadian too.

  • TBF, I didn't know horatio was Canadian. I should rep him just for that.

  • Or all Canadians should be forced to have a canadian flag as their Avatar in some form of cultural oppression?

  • Just to update, since the 2 guys told me they were going to do this, neither of them has been in touch, so i think I can say that neither of the lazy bastards are going to do it. they've probably forgotten they even suggested it.

I hope they read this and feel guilty, but they probably won't. The non-cycling morons.

  • Do a trip yourself. May be round France or Europe fuck them.

  • Or come to Canada with me next year and do the Montreal to Toronto portion of the ride.

  • Then fuck Object in the eye, until you nob ruptures his brain.

  • Or just part amicably and carry on along the rest of the way.

  • Oddly enough, not actually true. Admittedly when I did this we didn't get the usual prevailing westerlies and it rained a lot but there is stuff out there to see. Is best to hug the northern edge of the prairies though.

I was bored to tears driving this as a kid (moving from Edmonton to Toronto - born in Saskatchewan! Represent!). But to be fair, I get bored to tears when my friends tell me about taking the bus from Montreal to Saskatoon (which sounds more like prison).

Anyway, you had a good experience which is awesome. I still stand by the statement that it is flat, it is rather plain (to put it lightly), and it is usually windy. Not my idea of fun.

  • Everyone moves from Edmonton, no moves there it seems.

  • i have also driven this route and nearly cried out of boredom. canada's beautiful and all that, and the vast openness of the prairies is something pretty unique to behold ("look! a thunderstorm! hundreds of kilometres away! and we can watch it slowly coming towards us! for hours! and hours! and hours! and hours!") but i wouldn't willingly subject myself to this trip again in a car. and certainly not on a bike.

    (i am also canadian. eh.)

  • I'm quite keen in the next couple of years to cycle coast to coast across America, hopefully with a friend from the states..

I'll probably try to make my own route but the TransAmerican Trail is a pre-set route [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransAmerica_Trail_Bicycle_Route[/ame]

  • Horatio, Teddy - Here's the problem. If you do the trip in the car you'll sit on the TCH, which is designed to take the flatest, easiest way around everything and not pass anywhere. If you do the trip on a bike, you can exercise more freedom and don't loose much my going off the main drag. If you run along/parallel to the #16 out of Lloydminster for example then the scenery is different and there's plenty of interesting little communities to pass through. Sure there were a couple of dull days, but they were worth it for the good ones and some of the wierd little microcosms we passed through.

  • ASM we'll talk touring Tomorrow

  • My mate's doing this ride at the moment - though he hasn't updated his blog for a while...
