they always do this, I mean if a film is successful in the east (the ring as fanny pack mentioned), then Hollywood knew it would be very popular in the U.S. once they remake the film to fit the American audience.
honestly? tell the american audience to HTFU and watch original, like Taxi, anyone remember that french film? hollywood went and ruin it by making a remake.
