No worries bud. I've built a couple of wheels, and bodged the truing of a few here and there, but this one I had done by a pro.. I put it [the crack] down to unkind treatment such as going down curbs.
Anyway, your suggestion was roughly my plan.. just wondered whether anyone had actually done it. Heat treatment, annealing and all that is complex.. The original manufacture method would have to be taken into consideration.. I don't imagine I'd find anyone who knew enough about it that would do the work for £15. Hey ho I might give it a go. It'd be a crap paperweight anyway.
Overall I would say 35 of the 36 holes have kept their integrity, so I don't think the result would be unsafe.
