  • i might take the poles. how much?

  • how much skoota

  • Sod off Chris, you don't even play polo.

  • 5 a piece or 10 for two

  • Brendan... ME PLEASE!

  • both?

  • I've got some ace red tubing (from those lovely Madison boys) that needs a pole. I need to replace my heavy, bent pink mallet that i've been using for over a year!

  • just the one then?

  • I need to replace my heavy, bent pink mallet that i've been using for over a year!

    poor dave...

    sorry ... matt taxi/logging out.

  • hhahahahhahhahahaha!

  • i'll take the other one if hops doesn't want it. i'll be at the meeting tonight if you want to bring it

  • hey dan! :D nudge nudge! spare? i could do with a straight pole (ooer!), hell, i might even score with it!

  • for dollar of course.

  • Yeah, Brendan, just the one please. I think vidal asked first though :)

  • I'm not in dire need of a pole, seeing as I am in possession of the best polo mallet in the world. So if someone really needs one, they can have it. But I will buy one of them if it's available.

  • Matt, yours if you want it dude.

  • Right, I didn't win those poles so i'm still on the hunt. If anybody come across anything give me a shout.

  • TK Max have loads of ski poles in all their shops at the moment, saw them and thought of you guys

  • 5 a piece or 10 for two

5 pounds for one or if I want to take two I will have to pay twice that cost, and this amount is 10 pounds.

Have I got this right ?

  • well it's a moot point because one went for five pounds and the other is going to matt for five pounds.
If YOU want one, then you'll have to do a 2 4 2 deal with another enterprising sosage.
    pint?

  • If anyone is interested, I could try making a prototype carbon firbre mallet or two, and if they can take the abuse, I reckon I coud knock them out for around £30ish each if there's demand?
They would be extremely light and stiff, and the head could be weighted to exactly how you want it to feel.
If anyone fancies testing a prototype, give me a rough idea of dimensions and I'll give making one a crack!

  • Hmmmm, carbon ....... sounds good.

I'd just be worried about it taking a real hammering.

Standard mallet shafts are about 38" long x 1/3" diam with the head being about 6" x 2 1/2" diam. although I'm quite tall and prefer a long reach.

Would love to try one out.

  • Would you be up for trying something a bit different in terms of shaft diameter? ;)
I can get hold of some high quality tubing that's used on boats (will almost certainly take the abuse), but the smallest diameter is 25mm I think. Would a 1" tube with grip tape be too fat to hold?
I can do 60mm diameter for the head and 150mm length without an issue, I could try making the face that strikes the ball from a foam sandwich carbon plate, but I don't know how that would handle the impact. What's the ball made from? Is it really hard?

  • Shaft size is more of a personal issue (can't believe this thread's not been hijacked yet.....) but I've just switched down from 1" to a thinner handle and the control is much better. As the shaft is usually the thing to go first it needs to be fairly cheaply replaceable.

The balls we use vary in density but most are street hockey balls made from high density plastic, so pretty hard. And they hurt.

There are big advantages to using open pipe heads not least with ball jointing, which not everyone does, but I'd definitely lost without.
