  • Anybody ever effected a repair to something like this? ie Alu weld or something. Or are they dead.

Any recommendations for where to go? These hubs are too nice to lose. Bit of buffing they'd be magic.

  • I think it's over.

  • Any fixing, if possible, of that would look awful

  • D E A D to you

  • Buggery bollocks

(emotional attachment to inanimate objects - doh)

    Still, the front's ok.

  • those hubs are known to crack especially when used on the roads

  • Not Campy Sheriffs.

    What hubs are they?

  • They're Campag Victory (or similar, I can't remember exactly) road hubs. Had them a long while, so can't complain, just seems a shame. Thought fill, grind, drill, buff, but's its silly really I guess.

They look like sherrifs, but with seven cut outs, and for strada. But the flaw is I guess the same (won't stand abuse). Never seen another pair like them.

  • BIN (and I don't mean the ebay terminology)

  • fucked, buggered, wankered, cunted, BROKEN
    sorry get a new hub.

  • What Blankface said. Only in English.

  • What a pity.

  • The title of this thread is pure filth.

    :x

  • ;-)

  • "Fill flange crack?"

  • that'll polish out...

  • Get out now while you still have all your teeth and what is left of your mind.

  • Braze or weld then drill easy!

  • FTW

  • At least you have a nice paperweight

  • ....would buy if they are for sale!

  • You'd be able to fill that with tig weld (braze won't work, Brucy), grind, polish and re-drill it, but it is likely to crack again unless it's heat treated, because the temperature of welding it will make the crystals much bigger.

Your best bet is taking it to a local engineers and asking them to do it for you. They probably wont charge more than £15ish for a job like that (minus the heat treating) it wouldnt take long to do and will make the hub useable again.

It looks like that spoke was taking more strain than the rest for the hub to crack like that, this is due to uneven spoke tension. You all probably know how important even spoke tension is, and this really demonstrates it. When a whole section of flange cracks off, it's normally due to spoke tension being too tight all round. Make sure your wheels are built and trued by someone who knows what theyre doing.

Sorry if I'm being really patronising, I'm new on here. I'll shut up if you all want me to!

  • No worries bud. I've built a couple of wheels, and bodged the truing of a few here and there, but this one I had done by a pro.. I put it [the crack] down to unkind treatment such as going down curbs.

Anyway, your suggestion was roughly my plan.. just wondered whether anyone had actually done it. Heat treatment, annealing and all that is complex.. The original manufacture method would have to be taken into consideration.. I don't imagine I'd find anyone who knew enough about it that would do the work for £15. Hey ho I might give it a go. It'd be a crap paperweight anyway.

Overall I would say 35 of the 36 holes have kept their integrity, so I don't think the result would be unsafe.

  • if it is only £15, what have you got Toulouse?

    (bedtime- now).
