why worry about whether you'll be hated for a build decision? you won't be hated for thinking about your build. You might have the piss taken for "acoutrements" but it's only to have a laff -but you're more likely to get good advice posting queries about your build.
This forum doesn't dictate what's acceptable or not, ride what you like dude.. safety is paramount, the rest is how efficient / sturdy / nice-to-look-at your bike is. A lot of that's up to your taste and needs.
btw i don't know enough about bikes to answer your actual question......;)
