I'd call bullhorns most comfortable IMO,
like the kind you get on a charge plug,
and i would suggest them for you since your not liking the upright position.

Other than that you could just get some MTB risers.

Lotsa variations of different handlebars, you just need to try them out and see what your most comfortable with.

How do I do that without spending a packet? Do u know of a good shop which would be willing for me to trial some?

There seem to be many variants and shapes/ different angled bullhorns/ pursuits/ drops. How do I find out about the facts to this shizzle?

Like the nitto bullhorns, there seem to be at least 3 variants of similar shape. Arghhh. I don't do too many choices
