    42x15 on 700x23 is about 74 gear inches, which many on here would say is at the higher end of 'general purpose' gearing. Gives you about 20mph at 90rpm cadence, and 22mph @ 100rpm.

    If you went up to the 14t, be wary of straining your knees at low speeds, until having spent quite a while acclimatising.
