  • theres a cinelli vigorelli going on ebay
but its a size 54 im about 5'11
and at the moment i have a size large giant bowery
    would this be any good

  • depends on how hipster you are?

  • im so hipster i shit arrospokz
nargh but really not at all just want a new bike and seems a good deal

  • best thing to do is have a try, i'm sure there is someone on here with a vigorelli or similar. about personal preference really. my flatmate is 5'10 and he rides a 54.

  • if you know what your ideal effective not actual TT length is with a certain length stem it's easy to work out if a bike fits you or not (allowing for 'normal' stem lengths of 90-120) just find out from the giant/cinelli websites what the effective TT's are and take it from there.

mine is 55.5-56 with 110 stems once you know yours it doesn't take long to work out if a bike will fit. the only thing to watch out for is seat post extension on compact frames and standover on traditional frames if you are odd shaped (long legs/short torso or short legs/long torso)

  • A friend is 5 11 and a 58 fits him perfectly.

  • 54 is too small for you :-(

    by about 4cm

  • the giant has a 58.5 effective top tube the cinelli 54.5
i'm surprised you are riding a 58.5 when you are 5ft8 you must have a very long body and short legs? either that or you are using risers which shortens the cockpit a great deal.
most of the 6 footers i know are 56-58 depending on body shape.
did you get fitted properly at a shop or did you just get on a large and say that ones fine?

  • the cinellis are tight, 54 is too small. he's 5.11

unless you have VERY stumpy legs, it's not going to be right.

  • You've probably seen this info before but for some reason I knew it was there so thought I should share. There's a geometry diagram with sizes on the wiggle site:

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Cinelli_Vigorelli_Track_Frameset/5360033410/

You could compare that with your current bike.

  • Yea the Vigorelli is very tight. Very similar to my Geoffrey Butler and that is a 58 and I am 5 10.

  • depends on how hipster you are?

    A friend is 5 11 and a 58 fits him perfectly.

hipster 4x stem and trimmed mtb risers?

a size 54cm vigorelli has a tt of 54.5cm. i'd take that with a proper 100 or 110 stem. im about your height.

as sLimJim rightly said. depends on how hipster you are. if you want a hipster setup, you need a bigger frame

  • Nope a 110 stem with track bars

  • How many times do wanna say Hipster????

    wank

  • heaps.(ter)

  • Anyways, Personally with my experience - I fitted the bike to him - a 58 with a 110 stem fitted him perfectly.

  • A friend is 5 11 and a 58 fits him perfectly.

    i'm 6ft1 and a 55 fits me perfectly.

either statement is useless without knowing your inside leg, the effective top tube and stem length. manufacturers sizing can be center to top or center to center, this and the differences in compact and traditional geometry mean that effective TT is the main measurement that's going to tell you if the bike is likely to fit you. but unless you have been fitted properly to find out your ideal TT length it's all meaningless.
there are lots of people riding bikes of the wrong size, statements like 'A friend is 5 11 and a 58 fits him perfectly' isn't going to help determine the right size bike.

  • well i do have an uber hipster stem and a pair of short "bmx style" riser bars

  • well i do have an uber hipster stem and a pair of short "bmx style" riser bars

the only way the cinelli will fit is with drops and then you would have to sit on one to find out (or another bike with a 54.5 effective top tube and drops)

  • i'm 6ft1 and a 55 fits me perfectly.

like i said i fitted the bike to my friend and the 58 fitted him perfectly

To the op, the actual top tube length on the 58 is 56.5 CC and the seat tube length is 54 CC.

  • many track bikes have shorter top tubes than road based frames.

    as the cinelli vigorelli does.

you also need to think about the head tube, as track racers who chose a size down generally have to use a long stem, flipped up to gain the stack height they miss, fine on the track maybe, but have you ever steered a bike with a 130mm+ stem flipped to +10degrees? it feels like shit

  • like i said i fitted the bike to my friend and the 58 fitted him perfectly

i still don't see how your friends perfectly fitted bike is going to determine if the cinelli fits gogosama?

but it's the effective top tube length that matters.
because of variable angles of top and seat tube there is no direct relationship between actual top tube length between different makes of bikes but the effective TT is constant.
i dont see the actual tt measurement for the bowery on the giant website?
according to the specs the effective tt of the large is 58.5

  • i still don't see how your friends perfectly fitted bike is going to determine if the cinelli fits gogosama?

Because to be honest and I think- you would agree with me here - the only way he is going to be sure what size he needs is to try one out and get fitted for it. As this isn't going to happen as he is buying it on ebay, I was just offering an opinion without getting to complicated about it. ;)
