Chain Oil

  • Ok, i've done the search and can't find the answer i'm looking for so wondered what people reccomend for their chains?

Been using GT85 as i don't like it too thick but it washes straight off, need something inbetween.

  • search "chain lube" and "lube"

  • First lesson of bike maintenance:

    Learn to oil a chain.

WD40 & GT85 are light spray oils which are good for degreasing, cleaning, loosening rust etc, or lubricating a squeaky door hinge.

A bicycle chain is a critical component made of many pieces which has to efficently transfer all the power of your drivetrain. So maintenance of it is just as critical, but simple. Find some thicker oil/chain lube, apply liberally. Spin cranks, wipe excess oil & grime off with a cloth. Leaving chain fairly dry to the touch, but lubricated on the insides.

    Perfect.

  • GT85 isn't lube for a start

I've been using Green Oil chain lube, and it's excellent

  • +1 for Green Oil.

  • I use rain water + road grit + diesel residue + snot. Works great!

  • rubbish, you use snake oil

  • 80 weight motorcycle gear oil / 40 weight car engine oil - (pretty much the same stuff).

  • Surely one is twice as heavy as the other?

  • Red Top(dry) Finish Line.

  • rubbish, you use snake oil

    Hand-Squeezed Snake Oil, my friend.

    There's an important distinction.
