I got a Desmond in Philosophy too.
When I had to get my dissertation done (three weeks to the end of the course) I had to ask directions to a place at the University where I could use a computer, as I had never been there. I walked in and said ''hello... erm... I want to do... some... erm... typing?''. ''Mac or PC?'' they enquired. ''Excuse me?''
So my love affair with computers started. I now sit at one (or two) all ffing day long.
I feel old now. I typed my dissertation. On a typewriter.
We should compare dissertation titles. Mine was; "Subjectivity and the concept of 'thrownness' in Heidegger's Being and Time".

I got a Damien, but that's probably due to the face that Philosophy is the one degree which is conducive to smoking lots of pot.

"Consequences, constraints and intuitions as a guide to permissible killing."

i can't remember the exact title of my honours thesis, but it was about the rationality of using emotions as decision-making tools.

Mine asserted that Spinoza was right, if you must bloody believe in God, you may as well conceive of it as identical to something tangible such as 'nature'. Don't think that was the exact title I used.

Not philosophy I'm afraid, but my dissertation was: 'The Dramatic Function Of Prophetic Statement In The Classical Icelandic Saga'.
If you think the title is bad you should try reading the rest of the fncking thing.

Freudian slip from 'off your face'? ;)

I have a diploma in engineering which is totally useless and I should have a Computing Degree by the end of the year. I don't want to work in either industries at all. I am hoping I might be able to get a job doing scientific computing.

engineering is way more useful that computing man. stick with it!
employers recognize useless degrees bt its still better than working in argos for 3 years. the only thing that equal it or arguably beat it is professional experience in what u want to do..
i do product design and workload is non stop.
on the other hand i know some creative writing students that lay about all week attending a few lectures a week. -

Scientific computing is obviously very mathematical. If your good with programming / developing F.E.M, Finite difference / volume methods then that's a good start. You don't need to be a computer expert for scientific computing initially (well you need to be able to program but scientific code is in general not the best written code out there) you need to learn the computing stuff at a high level eventually but the main requirement is the maths.
just as well, considering the last effort
