Some shit going down at Dick Lane yesterday, by the looks of things. I guess the theives are trying to save up to buy more Carling, blue and white nylon adidas trousers and skunk for Christmas.
That Dave Russell^^ was beautiful, I am sorry to hear about that.

it's stupid and i was in a rush, but i left the knog light on my bike when i ran into condor to buy a tube. literally three minutes and it was gone. not a biggie (and my fault for being trusting/lazy) but i still think thieves are cnuts.

Put a shitload of posters all over Brick Lane proclaiming "BEWARD - BIKE THAT ARE SOLD HERE ARE LIKELY TO BE STOLEN".
I think this is a good idea.. and if we could get them up on a building where they are visible but out of reach for them to take down easily that would be good.. I also want to say something also that tells them to buy from registered stall traders only (i think there are registered ones right?)

or simply make shitload of poster, says 100 and put them up everywhere, literally every 5 second you'll see that poster, it'd be hard for the theft to try and removed every single one.

What is the likelihood that my bike that was stolen in Cambridge would make it to Brick Lane Market? Have bikes which weren't stolen from London turned up there before? Trying to decide whether it's worth making the trip down......
-
• #985
maybe?

• #986
thats awsome and perfect, get them up, how about some people ;) go on saturday night and just plaster brick lane with these notices.
-
• #987
needs to be done.. im gonna see how much itll be to get them printed..

sorry to rain on your parade, but how does a punter tell a registered trader from an unregistered trader?
IMO all used bikes at BL are likely to be stolen. So remove the last sentence. And make them stickers!

just got my stolen Dave Russell back - spotted it on brick lane outside the primary school, went into the police station right on brick lane after calling 999 and one of the PSCO's waited with me until a unit arrived which took about an hour! It was next to a building site and the lads were allowed to use an angle grinder to cut the shitty D-lock off which took all of 20 seconds. The 5-0 let me take it right there and then, as I had a printout with a picture, and the frame number and detailed description. Result! It's kind of made me think that the police are pretty nice as long as you do things by the book.

Wow nice work mobidog!
Yeah fuck the last bit on the flyer. I would say glue them up and then dab thick bleach around the edges so if anyone tries to pull them down.... they'll think its just paste when it gets on their fingers. At first.
NB I really don't recommend anyone do anything that might hurt anybody.

result! but what stopped you just looking under the bike, copying the frame no on to a bit of paper, and telling them that this was your bike, "look, I've got the frame number!"
-
• #992
Glad to hear you got the frame back mobidog.

hmmmm.. I dont think every person there sells stolen bikes? (maybe im naive) but arent some of the people monitored by the market watch people? I was directly targeting the guys that stand on the street not in the gates showing the stolen bikes on the curb.
I can take it off but I was trying to avoid complaints from anyone that might be legitamately down there.. Comments?
good you got yours back mobidog.. wish you couldve got the bastards that stole it too.. :0)

well seeing as I don't carry around a colour printer/photocopier around with me it would have been pretty difficult to put the frame number on the PRINTOUT - I am just happy it was still in one piece, the cranks alone can be sold for £180

So wait, your bike was stolen & probably sold to someone who left it locked up somewhere & you spotted it, got the cops who assisted you in nicking it back? Brilliant!
As an outsider reading these threads, it almost seems that as easily as you bike can be stolen, you almost equally easily can get it back. I am shocked & amazed.

DISAGREEEEEE.. Hard to get back just lucky.. thats why you write about it if you do.. if you dont you just wallow in your sorrows and keep it to yourself after a week goes by.
Ive got 4 more days to go.

I have been extremely lucky in getting all 3 of my bikes which have been stolen back, it's not easy but with a bit of tenacity, and knowledge of how and where to look I've proved it can be done, I have now got one back off gumtree, one from the market itself, and now one from the street with the popo's help! I think it helps that I live just off the top of brick lane and know the area like the back of my hand.

I still think it's quite amazing.

If anyone sees a smart bike light bracket, and a pair of woven black straps around Nottingham ;-)
Some scumfuck removed anything not screwed, bolted or otherwise attached by means involving tools from my bike in the train station over weekend.
