fixed. well of course, its fixed, cos its track racing, but what i meant was 'corrected'

You know it's being shown on the BBC red button thing atm right?

Anyway, I went yesterday (couldn't get tickets for Sat/Sun) and there's some photos here

Bit grainier than I'd like but without flash I was mainly using 800 ISO.

  • There's nothing wrong with a healthy bit of grain. You obviously didn't need flash on most of them cos most look perfectly sharp, but with just the right amount of motion blur. Besides, flash almost always makes pictures look shit and unnatural and flat, unless it's off-camera, or unless its a huge lightbox, and since you were a spectator and not an 'official' photographer I can't imagine them letting you set up a couple or three wireless remote flashes on the infield... and since we're dealing with fast moving athletes you would have had to use rear curtain sync to put any motion blur trails behind the rider rather than in front - which is only possible with more expensive dedicated flash/camera combo's (sadly not possible with my metz 45CT4's and cheapo ebay radio trigger kit)

I mean look at Mid-Session Practice on Flickr - Photo Sharing!@@AMEPARAM@@http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3236/2991364129_bebfc3e91f.jpg?v=0@@AMEPARAM@@2991364129@@AMEPARAM@@bebfc3e91f, the colour is good, and the sharpness of the rider against motion-blurred background shows that you are obviously good at panning, do you think flash would have improved that picture? I don't...

I wonder what the black thing is, underneath vicky pendletons bum in Flickr Photo Download: Women's Sprint 1/4 photo? Video camera?

Apparently it's a data recorder - logs info amount how much power she's putting into the cranks and stuff like that. Very tech! Quite a few of the GB riders had them on.

You're right in what you say about not being allowed to set up some complex multi-flash set up (even if I did have one) but I was very pleased that you seemed to be allowed to wander around and take shots from different viewpoints without hassle. I mentioned the grain more to avoid comments of them not being dead sharp knowing how some people on here seem super critical. Personally I quite like it.

Oh right, I noticed that her cranks looked like some sort of powertap device earlier on, maybe data is transmitted wirelessly from crank to black box.

  • Yes SRM cranks: http://www.srm.de/usa/prod_srmts_bahn.html

The box at the back is either the head unit or a transmitter to send her data back to her coach.

  • Great Velodrome, great event but minus 20 for F & B. There are only so many nights I can eat Fish and Chips or ... a steak and gravy sandwich. Best of all, many hundres tramped across the road to Asda cafe only to be told they 'stopped serving, but you can have what's left' ( fried eggs, burnt sausage, greasy chips).

  • it's the north, what do you expect?

the curry mile is what you want.

  • Rollapaluza are going to Revolution "team - handed" if we see that there Messyjar we're a gonna.....

Seriously Messenjah, you coming up for this?...your chance to compete against some top stars......what wtith you being a previuos rolla winner and all???

  • Hahah! That 'win' doesn't count. It was against weak students, man! I'd stand no chance against actual cyclists.

  • I forgot to add, I hate roller racing. It hurts too much! Never do anything that makes you want to collapse and cry, that's good advice, my mate told me that.
