If I were you I'd go via Fulham/Chelsea rather than Hammersmith/Kensington purely because of traffic..
If you were to go Putney Bridge>Fulham>Chelsea Embankment>Millbank you'd probably hit less (slow moving) traffic and you'd skirt the river and get to pass by Battersea Power station, Parliament etc etc..
I had a really good run down Chelsea embankment yesterday, it's quite wide and fast moving so you can get some good speed going..
