  • HTFU you hipsters this guy is doing a round the world tour on a penny farthing.

    http://www.pennyfarthingworldtour.com/

Just met this guy down on the Thames path, decked out in an old style African hunting hat. He is finishing a two year round the world tour on a penny farthing in Greenwich! He had special joiners to allow him to use normal spokes and he was running two gator skins on the front, beading cut off and stuck on!

    What mad little meetings!

    N.B note the aero forks.

  • Wow! Thats one way to HTFU.

  • Amazing

    the world's not all bad

  • The timeline on his web site is wonderful. I suspect that I might have given up at Mk1.

  • Awesome, where does he get the inner tubes for that?

  • really enjoying reading his accounts of the other journeys, paris, end to end etc.

perfect for a shitty day stuck inside with the flu

  • Small world!

I met this guy outside a hostel in Valencia a couple of months ago whilst on a riding holiday. he is an absolute legend, had so many stories to tell, a horrendous list of injuries and more energy than us lot combined.

  • That helmet takes the pith.

Thanks for pointing out the great web site - as RPM notes, perfect reading when stuck inside.

He said you could still get tyres and tubes for it but has to order. What he did as far as tyres go was to buy two normal tyres cut off the. Beading and glue them on. You can see a plaster like thing on the photo I took where the join was.

I thought afterwards I wish I had run in and grabbed my bike and ridden with him to Greenwich.

R.E injuries one of the first things I noticed was the holes on his knees and elbows!

I've got lots of respect for anyone that takes on a journey like that let alone on a penny farthing. Inspiring.

  • What a hero

  • brilliant. wow, wonder how he feels tonight now he's finished.

  • Empty

Better picture in the actual paper - one of him in from of Mount Everest.

  • He looks like a midget. Is he?xx

  • Pith helmet - a nod to the traditional attire of the British adventurer / explorer...?
wow.. this guy blows my mind. I want to build a penny farthing!

  • i saw this guy today in hackney.

i stopped and had a chat with him. nice fella.

i told him about the lfgss etc.

what made me laugh though. he was lost and had his face in the london a-z.

just makes me laugh. he has gone all the way round the world and gets lost in hackney.

maybe i am still drunk from last night ?

  • hackney?

well I suppose he'll need to get on here to post on the stolen bikes thread then

  • So What is his fucking beef with Africans? Can't we all co exist??

  • “The more I have travelled, the more I have appreciated England.”

just been reading bout Joff Summerfield in my x-mas book funnily enough
    keep him out of trouble
    GOOD LUCK

  • Joff's one of a kind. Good to see he's back on the road again. That's proper travel.

The forum's own riders of ordinary bicycles are kat and Charlotte, of course. There may be more who haven't de-lurked.
