Rollapaluza @ Mud Dock 5th Nov... TBC

Posted on
  • We are organising a roller racing event at Mud Dock on Thursday 16th October.

Mud Dock is a brilliant venue and we are really looking forward to our first competition in the west country.

I suggest repeated descents down St Michael's Hill as practice!

More details will be posted as they become available.

  • Good work!
Keep us posted on the details as they become available -should get a good crowd!

  • Ill be coming along to this hopefully, granted my bike is finished!

  • We have had to reschedule the race.

It looks like it is going to be 5th Nov...........TBC

  • best stock up on indoor fireworks then. they make any party go with a minor fizzle.

is it gonna be pre-arranged teams or just whoever turns up on the night?

  • We'll be bringing our competition 2up rig, the one Chris Hoy used the other week!

It'll be an open competition, two hours of qualification followed by two hours of finals. Whoever turns up on the night.

  • We have received confirmation for the 5th November.

Iron Horse and sponsoring the event.

Open qualification, the fastest got through to the finals and face each other in head to head bouts.

The male and female winners will be presented with an Iron Horse Transit 0 fixed wheel bike.

    7pm-11pm.

  • lookin forward to this one... fun times ahead.

  • I haven't rode fixed gear for long but can sprint like a fucker on my bmx
    reckon i'll find it hard?

  • BMX racers are usually very fast on the rollers.

The Peckham guys set some super fast times the other week.

  • hmmmm, not sure if i can make this now... shame you had to re-schedule the night. looks like a lot of fun though, might try to swing by later in the evening.

  • Would be interested in seeing how this works and what happens in the end, but Built to Spill happen to be playing a stone's throw away at Thekla and that's my plan for the evening.

  • ...but Built to Spill happen to be playing a stone's throw away at Thekla and that's my plan for the evening.

    Good style!

  • The Thekla, it has been a few years since I went to a gig there. It used to be a brilliant venue, is it still any good?

As for what happens at the end of a Rollapaluza race.........usually the fastest person there walks away with the prizes. Having said that some of people haven't got four or five fast races in them so they lose out.

Half the fun of it is that you can't tell who is fast and who isn't just by looking. There are some very strong roadies out there that are crap on the rollers, there are also some very unfit BMX & MTB riders that have a naturally very fast technique.

There are also a lot of people that have never done it before who speed up as the competition progresses and these people always throw up a few surprises.

  • people always throw up

gross. not looking forward to that bit.

  • It has been known. Very rarely though, twice in over 6k people......that we have seen.

  • The Thekla, it has been a few years since I went to a gig there. It used to be a brilliant venue, is it still any good?

The Thekla is still a brilliant venue. They refurbished it a couple years back. It looks and feels different, but not in a bad way. The lay out is mostly the same.
I'm not prepared to rep their club nights, however. Fuck club nights.

  • twice in over 6k people......that we have seen.

statistically speaking, this seems a low number?

in a gathering of 6,000+ people, I reckon *at least *two people are bound to puke anyway, regardless of the situation.

  • roll up roll up fuckers. its on tonight.

  • Wicked night, place was packed, 71 racers, super-fast times, great atmosphere.

  • i didn't see anyone puke, can i have my fiver back?
