Back wheel?
-
• #4
how bent is this wheel?
I assume you can ride, but there is a wobble?
I also assume you are unable to true the wheel. If it is capable of being trued for a few days, bound to be safe!
i look forward to your law suit against me...

Yes, it's the back wheel.
There is a "significant" wobble, and I have had it trued when I had the spoke replaced the last 2 times, but it puts the spokes under too much pressure and one goes within the week.
Expect a letter from my lawyer arvy...........
Are you saying I should have it trued or leave it be?

I have ridden my racer with tons of loose spokes with my fat arse on it. Riding with a broken spoke is fine, it if u have 4 or 5 that you need to start worrying.

Like he said above.
You've seen those bontrager/fulcrum/campy wheels that only have a few spokes, these show you never really need 32 spokes when 16 do the job.
Spoke tension, who needs it?

One week of riding with one missing spoke, you should be fine.
I'm not sure why the same spoke keeps breaking though (if it is the same one)
If you weren't buying new wheels I'd suggest loosening all spokes until the point where the thread is just visible, then starting from the valve tighten each spoke by one turn, repeating this until the wheel starts to become tensioned, then do it again with just half a turn on each spoke, then again with a quarter turn on each spoke. Spin the wheel and true as necessary.

remove the spoke on the opposite side of the wheel and each of those at 90degs.
adjust the tension by tapping each spoke violently with a hammer and then ride it hard. no problemo -

Thanks chaps.
Gonna ride it until the wheels I have ordered come in.
Is it safe to keep riding on a slightly bent wheel that has a broken spoke?
Basically I have a (currently) OTP spec Genesis Flyer with the crappy Alexrims still on it. One of the spokes keeps breaking, and is curerently broken, with the wheel a little out of shape. I am all booked in to get some new wheels made and put on next week, but can I ride it broken until then? I can't stand the bus any longer and don't want to spend a tenner on fixing it only to be rid of the wheels come next week or for the spoke to break again straight away.
I'm really only concerned about doing my frame or me damage, if the wheel is irreprable, then so be it, I won't need it soon.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
