I was just stating a figure that is thought to reflect reality, you can play with it however you wish, cry and say it is not so if that feels good to you !

Thought to reflect which reality? What are the assumptions?

If it assumes a reality in which one in three black kids goes to prison, then of course it's going to confirm that assumption.

What if it assumes a reality in which black families get richer, go to college more and become more politically empowered? Would the results be the same?
