So a geezer high sides his bike on a really hot day in the alps whilst being pushed hard by Lance Armstrong and suddenly Tubs are for mugs?

Lucky the rest of the peloton were on clinchers.

  • lol

    Grr.

  • This is why I love reading shit on this forum.. a thread full of bitterness makes the medicine go down, makes the medicine go down, makes the medicine go down, a thread full of.. you get the ikea.

  • If you rode on tubulars you would have an excuse to buy some of these beauties:

  • throw it away, or send it off to Bergin's to get repaired at £8 a throw

    I missed it all.

Obviously not enough productivity on the pineapple counter, we may have to make some cuts..

  • don't you mean some cubes?

  • I ride the streets of NYC on tubulars & really love them. Right now I'm rolling a set of Continental Giros, but I have a set of Clements hanging in the closet.

I guess there's worse things that could be 'hanging in your closet'.
Are they as good as Clements, BTW?

  • And another thing. Would whoever tagged 'Platini = cunt' down there kindly have the good grace to put their name to it?
    Form an orderly queue please...

  • Opinions on Conti Giros? My experience is limited to Vittoria Corsa and Rally tubs.

How well do the Giros cope on city streets?

  • This may not be everybody's experience but I feel that they are utter, utter shite for riding on the streets. I've got 2 or 3 of them and they puncture so easily it's a joke. The Sprinter Gatorskins are the only Conti tubs I would use on the road, and even they're fairly unreliable - I've got one or two that have never punctured and one or two that punctured all the time.
Just don't get the Giro's. They are shit.

I got them because I read reviews before I got the bike that the Contis the bike came with were lumpy, however...

they ride surprisingly nicely, I guess it's all in the installation. They have good grip (I don't ride in bad weather) & hold air nicely. I'm 235lbs, just have to check the pressure in the rear tire every other week. Not one flat in the few weeks I've ridden them, while all of the clinchers I've ridden flatted within the first week or two.

  • Vittoria Rallys need pumping up daily. The Corsas I had needed pumping less (once a week), gripped better but wore quickly. They're both very smooth and roll pretty quickly. Even the Rally's are lush on smooth roads.

  • sometimes kyle i dont know why your so big headed

You've ridden tubs on the street for 2 weeks and "love them"?

    Review duration fail.

  • while all of the clinchers I've ridden flatted within the first week or two.

That could only be down to poor installation, inability to avoid road debris or huge amounts of bad luck.

  • Hmm.. my only tag is "use the fucking search".
Sorry Plats.. the cunt tagger I am not..

EDIT: Added one for ya.. pick it.. ;)

Thanks - I'll certainly use the search facility in future...

  • hang your tubular tyre casing to soak in a cylinder of pre-waxed demethyl bromuline with a muslim gauze interwoven on sheets of linseed, after about three days in a dark cupboard, remove the de facto 'prantis mentrite' and breathe hard on the chaffed residue before draining over a hot stove on gas mark 7, serve with warm garlic bread, season to taste.
