    You missed the meeting.

  • Ha ha ^ ^ hold tight the veterans.

  • If you think you'll want to go fixed, do it right away. You'll just waste money on a freewheel and a back brake. I intended on the 'singlespeed then fixed' route, but in the end just spent a few hours in the local park wobbling about. I forgot that I couldn't coast once (trust me, once is all you need) and never went back.

+1 on sano. I hadnt had a bike for 10 years before immediately going fixed. I guess that was made easier as there was nothing to forget (i.e. coasting).

  • Same here- bought a flip-flop wheel, fixed sprocket, lockring and a screw on free wheel for the other side.

The screw on free wheel was never used, and now sits in my toolbox sulking.

Go to park>wobble>learn>go and play in traffic.

  • Thanks for all the advice, I'm having a ride on my mate's fixie this weekend. Should be fun...

  • Or, if you're intent on going freewheel, talk to Dammit about mutually acceptable terms for cheering up his spare one.

If you're looking for brakes, post on here. Plenty of people will have something you could have for a fiver, I'm sure.

  • hello old bean,

i believe those awfully nice chaps at activesports are still doing 2008 bowery's for £280. slightly more than Pearsons were, but still top hole.

    toodle pip

  • Over there..........>>>> http://www.thechap.net/

    fixed

  • Mr Platini old bean,

what a jolly decent chap you are. i can highly recommend this rag. i know alot of your chums are concerned with rolling up their jeans whilst on the pedal cycles, and other such fashionable tips, but i say what about what about tweed. a nice pair of plus 4's will do a blindingly good job, and will set one up as an attractive proposition for the young ladies i'll be bound.

toodle pip Mr platini old bean

  • Thought you'd appreciate it...

  • I went to the Chap Olympics last year- much Hendricks was quaffed.

The pavement seemed to be significantly narrower on the walk home than it had been on the way there. More of a zig-zag to it as well.

  • pick up a 2008 bowery for 280 with brakestheres plenty aboutand ive got one not a great bike but for a first its fine

  • Thanks for all the advice people, I eventually picked up a BLB bike with a Mavic Open Pro wheel set, a basic crank set (I'm unsure of the make) and a goldfinger / shimano front brake for £250.

  • decent choice, should be fun once you start building it up, don't forget the magic word too; sheldon brown.

  • decent choice

I hope so, the frame is literally perfect, no dings or anything. I need some new grips and will eventually want to update the stem etc but it's good to go for the moment.

And yeah, been checking Sheldon so that I know how to wire up the rear brake!

I'm gonna cry fail. For true chapness it should have been Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength, complete with the 19302 style bottle. Plus Hendricks is Scottish. They got Whisky, leave the gin to us
