  • I think Leopard need a 867mhz G4 as a minimum requirement. I tried running the installer on my iBook before I upgraded the ram and it just sat there with a spinning beach ball.

  • Right then........... hmmmmm.......... i'm not that fussed about huge amounts of cool software as won't be using it for that, it really is just for surfing the net and iTunes, the problem I am having with 10.1.5 is that I caanot install firefox/safari to get things going faster.... IE5.2 is just ridiculous and won't load most pages... iCab (or iTaxi or whatever it is) seems better but still slow and clunky.......

I think Leopard (10.5), although better sofware, is going to slow it all down and defeat the object here.... it sounds like the old Tiger (10.4) is the way to go....

If that's the case... who's got some discs I can borrow? :)

  • Mr Chris Crash I believe.

  • Cool.... meester chreeessss... wah ya got? Have you got 10.4 lying under that pile of porn you have? :P

  • did that... found some pubes

    Smoke 'em?

i think you're right, my ols G4 titanium powerbook can't run leopard at all due to graphic card especially.

  • No Leopards... No Tigers
it used to be so simple.....

My iBook's graphics card really struggles with the effects, can't turn them off though :(.

yeah that what annoy me, there's little you can do about it, even thought the software detect the system and reduced/turn off certain thing (such as menu bar transpancy on Tiger, it's off if the system is too slow, like 1.33GHz G4 etc.).

  • You could just try right clicking- oh wait.....

  • my mac's mouse has a right click button

  • So.... anybody got 10.3 or 10.4 lying around then? 10.1 is doing my head in :S

Have downloaded iCab but it crashes every 5 minutes.....

i've got 10.3 at home somewhere, i'll try dig it out for you

  • Cool, thanks squire.... i'm hoping it will allow me to install a better browser to get things moving along...

Failing a|s's kind offer, I might still give 10.4 a go if anyone has those too? Can pay for postage by paypal and post back :)

    control+click?

  • Make sure you BTFU.

Have had the hard drive on 2 macs completely die on me. Same applies to windows i suppose but the positive spin always applied to macs is beyond me. I do like the OS but am sure there is a built in obsolescence just at the end of the warranty period IMHO.

  • A|S

Sorry to pester you dude but did you find your copy of OS X 10.3 at home? This 10.1 is driving me nuts!!! :(

Am happy to paypal you postage and then send it back after... also buy you some beers too if you get down to south drinks :)

    Tobes

  • sorry tobby no disks found here yet, they may pop up but at this point who knows.

  • no worries crashity chris.... i'm on my laptop at the mo as the mac is doing my head in which sort of defeats the object of buying it. If I don't upgrade it and get it running the mrs will ask me to out it and then i'm back to fighting over the laptop again! :)

  • +1 in retrospect 10.3 would be better, i noticed my mac slow up a bit when i went to 10.4 but it was pretty much out of use by then so wasn't too much of an issue.

maybe bump your RAM up a bit as it's pretty cheap to do so. Crucial are pretty good for it

Definitely upgrade the RAM if possible my 3.5 year old powerbook G4 had a second lease of life after I gave it some more memory, feels faster than my new work laptop running windows!

  • Hi Bobob
This might hurt a bit but with junior on the way you want to make your Mrs and daily life as comfortable as possible.
    Buy a new macbook.
    Kisses.

  • Ello... wish I could! I did follow a few to the end on ebay but ran out out bidding power :(

Someone will turn up with something... hopefully! Hope you're well chap.... loved the raincoat the other day, still makes me smile!

other than that, when i get home i'll look for all the random disks i have.

  • control+click?

i have a mighty mouse, but before that i just used a microsoft mouse for many years.

    right-click functionality is essential
