there is a ridiculous amount of fixed gear riders in bristol these days, with a lot of really horrible bikes to match. keep away from the mud dock they're a bunch of nob heads, they laughed at me when i asked them to order a quill stem for me. bike workshop on colston st is good, real friendly and lots of spare parts and a bike shop in bedminster on north st or nice too.
theres not really a scene as such around though.

Listen up bristol folks, how about a meet up? quick ride or something? this evening i did a quick ride from bottom of stokes croft up to filton roundabout and back. it was late notice for everyone else, so how about tomorrow? i might be meeting with a couple of other folk for it then maybe a pub or something? today was ride as quick as i could up and back, through the rush hour traffic. fun times. does anyone else fancy it? if not tomorrow then another day... can we sort it out to meet up to decide if we ever want to do it again?
date and time tbc but how about it...

-
• #55
tomorrow evening is possibility, yes.

yea thats my name, but not on a condor though, ive not seen that one about yet. i ride a rusty bike with words all over with black wheels, bar and stem. sorry for being late. i kind of get back from work and decide if i want to ride or not so its always late notice. i enjoy the rush hour you see, though im not against longer 'real' rides.

fair enough. i heard you lived over that way. i'll try to bear it in mind next time ;-) when i know, i'll let you know about tomorrow, though if its pissing down, i aint coming out. my wet weather bike is in bits and cant be bothered till its on the road again...,i'll have to get used to park street on a 81 inch gear again.

i think the weather will be ok tomorrow. i have to ride anyway, but i'll be on the raleigh if it's raining. if it's nice, and the place is bike friendly or safe, i'll bring the holdsworth. aidy's on holiday, but pete's probably around and a few of the others.

The road to filton from St Georges is quite a nice ride. Its even better when hungover to fuck and you go 5 miles the wrong way even though you have a map, 5 miles back to St Georges just to go the right way to fulton. Oh then on to parkway for 7 hours of intencive training. All good fun.

I go to uwe, just at home in Newcastle for the summer.
But will say, check out http://www.boolsbicycles.co.uk/, a new-ish small bike shop in Fishponds.
They do custom builds and the guy who runs it specialises in fixed-gears/single speeds.Went there for my build, quality service and a very good price, and only took about 3 weeks. definetly reccomend it to others who are hoping to go to a bike shop for a custom build.

I won't be able to make tomorrow but will be up for a ride sometime. I ride from Temple Meads to St Michaels Hill most evenings via Park Street or Horfield Road behind the BRI (not been able to make it up St Michaels yet!). Sometimes ride through town and out to Ashton Court then back in over the bridge, more killer hills!

Hello to all in Bristol...
I'm based in Manchester but will be visiting Bristol around the 26/27/28th Sept and have made notes of the shops to check out already... thanks...
I wondered as i'm gonna be around for what is a Critical Mass weekend in Bristol whether the ride really happens down there, i've googled and not come up with much info..... can anyone enlighten me....?
Also which are the boozers i'm likely to meet fixed riders while i'm in Bristol? i caught the name of the Old Duke in this thread but are there any other to check out....?

Yo dude, check out the bristol crew section of the social group forums.
there needs to be a bristol ride planned! -
• #69
due to my status as being a fresh face to the forum and a nub i can't seem to post anything on the social groups forum which is annoying and i don't want to just post useless posts in order to get past the nursery stage! But i am up for a ride i can do most evenings, does it look like it will be older/younger group as i am of the prime age of 18!

Not really sure there is a shop that sells much fixed stuff, I live between Bristol & Bath, haven't had a look in many of the shops in Bristol for a while, but when I last did there really wasn't much fixed stuff around, I guess a couple of the smaller ones may have a few pieces, but nothing major.
Fresh Tripe is a 1 man outfit run from bath, but i think he's toning it down & stopping it all, that's the last I heard, was good for the few rarer parts & things you couldn't get here easily enough.
To answer your question, no, there isn't a fixed gear shop. But it seems Fifty Fifty have jumped onto the scene, and the old Dave Bater is next doow, so worth a trip up to Park Street I guess! -

Strada on North Street Bedminster is pretty good for bits and pieces as is bike workshop on colston street, which is in the centre, also a guy who has a workshop and usually lots of second hand parts in montpelier 'jakes bikes' hes got a website i think...have to look him up,
hope thats of some help. cheers ta. -

Sorry for high jacking this a little, I'm not allowed to start a new thread, I've just joined.
I've been thinking of getting a fixie for a few years now after riding one in Amsterdam, and now that i'm back from Uni I'm getting closer to actually buying one. I found a secondhand Steamroller which I haven't bought yet but will want to change the the gearing if I do. "dorr" above, say's 42 14 suits him what do other people suggest? I am a customed to riding up park street and st micheal's hill etc. on a BMX. And what are peoples opinions on getting a geared hub?
Also from reading the forum looks like people are noticing a sudden influx of ssfg in Bristol, I work in stokes croft and see loads of them now. I thought it was just because I've been thinking intensly about fg recently and it being subconscious.
Thanks. -

Hi from another Bristol person. Not officially Bristolian but I appear to have been here for 15 years!
Overburys is still there in st Pauls they stock Bianchi and make custom track frames if you ask nicely, mostly lycra roadies and MTBs but seeing quite a few fixed around and getting popular very fast, lots of the skaters ride them, i got 42 14 and get around fine, a few hills are good for you. also loads of good day rides around either on cycle paths ie Bath and onwards or just quiet country roads.
