Always keep the front brake slightly looser than the rear brake...
I disagree - I keep my back brake looser, as it's easier to lock up the wheel, which doesn't do anything; and I keep the front brake loose enough to apply a bit of pressure without the pads touching the rim, for holding on during descents. I reckon it's more useful to train yourself to get low and move your bum rearwards if you ever have to grab the front brake hard. Whatever works for you though.
