What does it mean?

  • HI Guys,

I am busy building my first SS. My next purchase is a chainring. What's the difference between 130 BCD & 144 BCD?

  • they're different sizes and so fit different cranks. It relates to the bolt pattern diameter of the spider, although the way in which it is measured is a bit obscure and i can't remember... Solution? find out what BCD your cranks are and then get a chainring to match.

  • bolt centre diameter
the distance from the centre of the spindle to where the chainring bolts go
i guess it all relates to the length of the spider arms on the crank

  • Thanks guys.

  • Cheers, will measure my crank.

  • or let us know what crank it is and we should be very easily be able to find out what the bcd is.

  • Shimano FC-A500 170mm. I would also like to know what 16t I can put at the back :)

  • 14 bcd.

  • 135

  • Sorry for being dense but what does the 14bcd mean?

  • HI Guys,

i think the word you're looking for is 'assembling'.

    It's bolt circle diameter actually.

And it's not from the centre of the bb spindle to the chainring bolt - that would be the radius, not the diameter.

It's the width of an imaginary circle whose line goes through all the chainring bolts.
