  • If you want one of these there is a guy on the lane of bricks, got loads of the things, saw a bunch of them last week. Not my bag really.

  • Are they new? I don't want to buy one of dubious origins, so to speak.

  • Well they appear new; nice and shiny, wrapped in cellophane, bubble wrap and tape. He's got a lot so I'm assuming a bunch of different sizes it's at the beigel shop end of that temporary pedestrian tunnel thing.

  • Be wary looking at newer Kronans.
Since the guy at Kronan's daughter took over the quality went downhill cos she squeezed the factory dry, resulting in a whole batch of them that had rims splitting under duress. The older ones don't seem have that problem.

  • I liked mine but they are heavy.
Dutch bikes are lighter and more practical.

  • It's a style thing, I admit, plus the front rack is great. I want one for a heavy-duty everyday bike. I'd heard that there were problems with rims recently, not sure what to go for now really.

  • ^ if you could be arsed you could just change the wheels...
powder coat them to match the bike colour even.

    just a thought.

  • i had a kronan but it was wrecking my knees its too heavy ! good bikes for the flat cities .....

  • Coming from sweden I know a thing or two about these Kronan bikes. They used to be the main supplier for the swedish army, and were heave steel bikes coming only in one colour, olive green :)

The kronans sold now are of asian origin, and have a reputation of terrible build quality. All vintage style and no substance; if something is THAT heavy the least you'd expect is that it doesn't fall to pieces when you ride it :D

The original army Kronan bikes sell for very little money in sweden, so they would make a great restoration project! 30£ for the bike, another 30£ for the shipping, if you can find someone shipping these outside of sweden that is... just google arme-cykel or militär-cykel, and you'll get something like this:

I have to say, these look really good when rusty!
