  • Tried a new cyclepath today on the outskirts of Gloucester. You approach on the old single-carriage road linking it and my town and the cyclepath takes you off it before you get to a major roundabout that links the new dualcarriage way road between town and city, and the dualcarriageway bypass road, obvious unsafe for bikes. I followed the path and very quickly it narrowed, but still carried signs pointing me to other towns. However I found myself rather unceremoniously dumped on the side of the afore-mentioned dualcarriageway bypass occupying a narow strip of tarmac between the grass verge and some very fast moving traffic. I was not impressed, did not feel safe and could not turn round. I followed the road and any pretence of a cyclelane disappeared as we came to another massive roundabout and I was forced into the traffic lanes and indeed across them to turn right to seek the safety of city streets. We're talking a four lane roundabout with numerous traffic lights and about five exits. At no point did I feel comfortable and I was grateful it was Sunday traffic.

Quite incensed by this: I could just about cope but on a busier day I would even have baulked. Imagine kids using that path. Seems insane. Going to write a letter to someone about
