Some front-of-a-sheet-of-paper calculations lead me to believe that the maximum bending stress in the aluminium due to braking (rounding to give a worst case scenario) is about 30MPa. The Aluminium 6082 T6 alloy that I'm using has a yield stress of about 250MPa.
However I could have got that all wrong, in which case I will end up with the brake dislodging from the frame rather suddenly - maybe I should learn to stop quicker with my legs.

damn! drilled the hole no problems but shit u your were right RPM the Tiagra wont fit the drop is long!!
wat to do???! guess ill just have to ebay them unless anyone here want em?I use this:
Had to drill the back of my Mercian's forks though (which took a lot of consideration), but the brake works perfectly out of the box - insane braking power - and my forks haven't suffered for it either. For the drilling, I'm always extra careful - rather than taking the full size drill-bit to it, start with something smaller and work your way up.

i'm running 700s on a 1950s frame. i generally find older brakes have a longer drop, weinemann 500s work ok. as do old dura ace. and they look better.
they don't stop you quite so well though.

do not ever ride behind me.
that looks pretty solid to me...there'sa lot more metal there than there is in long reach brake caliper arms.....

do not ever ride behind me.
Chris, one question, Why behind? I will not mind behind me, the problem will be in front of me, but behind... don't know, please teach me something new

he is the one that cant stop, if he is in front all he does is hit whats in front of him, if he is behind he hits me.

Judging by the last time someone crashed into my back wheel (don't draft a few inches behind just before a turn...) he came off a lot worse than I did!

correct, thanks for the class

Anyone know what size drill-bit to use to drill out the rear of the fork? I'm looking to get rid of my weinmann 500 front brake on my fixie and replace it with a newer model.
Thanks for any advice!
