  • Just came home to my flat to find a notice pinned to the residents entrance to the 'secure' underground carpark.

apparantly 4 youths were rumbled loitering in the car park and sent on there ways none to politely by another resident

he then discovered his bike lock wrecked and his bike sitting on random wheels his lying close by!!!!

the car shutter comes down a while after its been activated at my flat so people can easily sneak in after.
nightmare, meanwhile the landlords send round mails asking us not to leave bikes in hallways etc.

not sleeping easy, at the moment,
i have a massive motorbike chain round the frame and quick release wheel, and a halfords coil lock round my front which isnt QR

i found my fancy valve caps missing which makes me think someones been right up checking my bike out as i only park it there or at work.

either way concerning i am picking up a kryptonite d lock from a forum member tomorro so hopefully that will make me feel better.

had to share guys no one understands the pain unless they are a bike fiend
    dave

  • Can't leave your bike in the hallway? Give it the bed, you can always sleep on the floor.. Either that or kick out your other half (if you have one)

  • Yeah bikes don,t bark or shit, get it inside the flat.

  • haha love the replies boys,
yeah think its gonna have too

  • My bikes are in my living room or hanging up in my workshop at work. No way would i leave it locked up for any longer than an hour or so. I'd just get some wall hooks (which bikehut sell for a few quid) and wall the beast.

  • I never used to keep bikes indoors, due to lack of space and a very busy household.

But for my most recent build I just could face keeping it in my bike shelter or shed, plus the time taken to get it out and unlock it devalued the efforts of putting together a fast bike.

So I forcably made a space, and have been very happy I did so. I ride my bike more and bits like the chain are staying in better shape.

If you have high ceilings you could get a pulley system , they get im in lidl from time to time.

Oh and lastly, I notice you mention that you have a QR on the rear? - I had a fixed wheel setup like that, caused a few hair raising incidents due to wheel popping out.

  • how hard/easy is it to bring your bike to the flat?

  • shouldnt be too hard to be honest i will need the missus seal of approval, but having the underground secure carpark was such a huge bonus when we decided on this place as ive went from my family home with big garage with work space etc etc, to here an this was a good compromise though u cant just down tools during a rebuild for a brew and if u have to run up stairs for a forgotton part u move fast
ps it has a qr on the back as its my freeride mtb, the ns core i stuck some photies up once, sorry should have mentioned that,
tho part of the problem is ive just won my fixed speed project bike on ebay (a 80's reynolds framed gem details in another post soon)
so now i would have 2 bikes to home!
prob wont have wheels on the fixed till xmas so that should be secure

  • steady on mate! take your time typing, don't rush this isn't a TT internet.

I think you should have a proper word with your landlord, make some sort of rules that the tenant should make sure the shutter go down before they leave/enter the building, dunno how to solve that when the tenant exiting the building mind.

either way usually a meeting with everyone would work methinks (work for me at least).

hhahah sorry bro im just all hyped up with fear clearly

yeah sounds like a plan, the guy who wrote the note seemed quite militant and up for a scrap
    he signed off saying...

'if you notice anyone suspicious and are too scared to confront them please call the police, or me as i know exactly what to do'

    legend

  • i have one bike in my bedroom and one in my hallway.

my missus and my housemate can HTFU.

    i suggest the same policy.

  • mate, your bike hasn't been stolen, you should calm down a bit now that you know what happen to the underground parking and can take measurment to ensure the bike will stay in your possession a little bit longer than originally.

  • Couldnt you and the other residents chip in for some kind of lock system for the shutter such that if sum thieving cunts do sneak in they will be unable to raise the shutter and be trapped there until you and your neighbour can go down with a blow torch and pair of pliers.

  • hhha
thats the thing they are locked in u need a fob to get out

except for a side exit door which is largely unused they must only have it for health and safety or fire or something it only opens from the inside and theres a significant staircase to get up.

as ed says im grateful ive got that chance to move the bike /up the security
i wont be leaving my knogs on in the meantime

  • Or an alarm system that will sound if any illegal attempt in getting in the compound while the shutter is closing?

the louder it is the more it might scare them off (especially since it would cause some attention).
