  • That's certainly true. The abuser has a new victim.. I hear it's into "chroming"..

    *inserts evil laugh

  • You bloody love the Velvets, you do. Especially the Yule stuff after Lou Reed left. It's true!

That change of career had me baffled, I must admit...

  • That was for Joe, in fact. Joe! I was gazing fondly at the Tav Falco boat party flyer in my kitchen the other night, remembering that eve! Thinking about how my friends got ticketed by the cops for trying to scale a war monument on Whitehall on the way home at 3am. Out-of-towners, eh?

    Baffled.....?

I'm so confused- it hurts when i wee.

That was a great night! My highlight was Giovanna Pizzorno dancing then stripping down to her underwear in front of me while I was spinning 45s... She *loved *the music apparently... I was shaking like a leaf the rest of the night... That woman is hot! Good times! :D

  • She was a great drummer, too. The bass player looked like Bernard from Black Books, and read his music from a sheet on the floor. Tav forgot the music to his own songs, and blamed an out of tune guitar. I met JMM, and got told to watch 'El Topo' (which I finally did a few months ago - amazing!). I got blamed for a power cut, because you lot behind the turntables thought I'd prodden on something electrical. It was a class evening!

  • [quote=vinylvillain;333062]Vice US turns out some good shit, Epically Latered for one, and their peice on the biggest rave in Russia in a disused nuclear powerstation is brilliant.

Russian rave, that was a quality documentary. Was gonna go to kazantip this year before starting my new job. In hindsight it's probably better that I didn't as I wouldn't exactly be on the ball for quite a while after that. The documentary about the street kids in Bogata is really good too, if a bit depressing.

  • lol jus read this topic . . .
well what can i say ? ? ? its tru tho lol

what is mine do or dont ? ? ?

  • this dude looks like lenni

    ;)

I know I'm a bit late but: WHAT?!

  • 'Produced'?! Have you heard his original mixes on that LP?!?! The man should be shot... The Velvets did make some great records but I still hate them, Da Stooches have been my fave band since I was 16 when everyone was into the Velvets but no-one gave a toss about my lil' darlin' Detroit boys... It's a completely irrational stance on my part, but hey, whatcha gonna do?

    you could like the mc-5.

i saw that in nashville, well i think i saw that, i definitely saw a film about the mc-5 focused on the grand ballroom and also featuring a big detroit v8 muscle car.

  • That fucking film! I know there's a ton of litigation over it, and I've not met anyone with a copy yet. It might be one of those 'director has to be present at showing' flicks, like 'Cocksucker Blues'. Which I still haven't been bothered to sit through.

  • it fucking rocks.

probably a don't, but then you can never tell, even the do get criticised more than Gordon Brown.

Few years back, MC5 reunion gig (for the ones still alive and kicking out the jams) at the 100 club. Awesome. Mani from Primal Scream on decks for the warm up, Lemmy on vocals for a couple of songs + host of others.

    I was very very drunk.

I'll dig my copy out for ya, Guy... There are a coupla versions floating about, one has all the extras on it which has some great full-length live footage on it...
    Rant alert
I designed a poster for their Royal Festival Hall show with Sun-Ra Arkestra a few years back, as a favour cuz they hadn't got it together to sort one out (I was pretty chummy with Michael Davis and his wife so said I'd do it for free)... So I rock up on the night, no sign of my poster anywhere in the building but they had used my design on all their merch, without asking... Still pisses me off, haven't spoken to 'em since...

Me and my mate spun a few 45s at that before Mani showed up, it was an awesome night! Nikki Hellacopter was a-ma-zing on guitar! Ian Astbury was less amazing, WTF was he doing onstage?!?

  • man that sucks!

  • Astbury was probably just fresh from getting his teepee sorted. Electric! Yowza!

Yes please to a copy of the MC5 flick. The live footage on Youtube is amazing. I especially like the early b&w pre-Sinclair stuff with the old man presenter sticking his fingers in his ears. I still owe Joss a CD for his giving me a Reigning Sound out-takes CD. I hope he's forgiven me in his little Bath heart...

Cool, I'll dig it out... Joss will have forgotten, he smokes way too much weed... ;]

Excellent that you were there as well. I was the drunken twat dancing/swaying somewhere at the front (couldn't have missed me ;).
My mate still has one of the empty JD bottles that Lemmy consumed during the day (alledgedly he got through 3 bottles).

Best bit was they (MC5) were in a record store during the day. A fan/singer turned up and they invited her to perform with them (can't remember name etc.). Class that is though!

Astbury at 2.12 and then on in, acting like a plum!
