A Crank Question

Posted on
  • Morning, got a bit of a problem with the cranks i have. They have sheared threading where the pedals would go and as a result i either can't get the pedals on at all or they go on a little way but completely wonky. Went to bikefix and they reckon they need a helicoil which will cost £80 for both crank arms! Money i don't have.

The guy in Londonfields bikes reckons i could buy a new set of cranks but i wouldn't be able to buy new ones as new track cranks are offset and my old Nerval ones aren't. Are all old track cranks not offset and does anyone have any laying about that i could buy cheaply? Any advice greatly appreciated!

  • £80 i very steep for a bit of helicoil... got me a helicoil for the cement mixer spark plug head for £15... there aint much difference really.

  • Thanks, asked Mosquito bikes they came up with £30, ended up popping into Holloway Rd Cycle Surgery on the way home and the guys in there did it then and there for free too! My faith in humanity is restored :)
