105 FTW! Will stop you in a hurry, if your legs won't/can't...

Sounds like you don't need a new brake, just a little more finger control... Don't worry, it'll come with experience... ;]
I love those Campag brakes... -

105, Ultegra, DA.. seeing a trend here? It'd have to be a poor brake to not stop you.
Brakes are good. Black 105 mmm. Cheaper by about £270 than Zero G. 105 FTW unless you want something sexier.
Stick your sword through the spokes?? ;) -

I love those Campag brakes...hey come on not again! by emergency stop i mean turning round to check out a student girl then turning back to see a bollard thing to stop cars doing left turns and slamming on the break, she stopped to see if i was ok though so i sort of won :/

Honestly even a cheap Tiagra is enough to provide stopping power in a short distance, all it's down to is the rider.
we're talking about brakes that's designed for freewheel bicycles here, they have to be very reliable under hundred of thousand of pressure everyday being squeezed onto the rims, with fixed wheel bicycles, probably not that much, and thus my point that the Tiagra is plenty enough.

(yes am fully aware I could go brakeless but I am not that confident about doing so -possibly one for the shame thread).
No shame in having a front brake.
Agree with Teenslain and Hippy (damn, never thought I'd say that!)re: 105's. And they are very good value for money.
I wanted a black brake. Loved the look of the Mavics, but also only came in pairs and pretty expensive. So went for a 105. Never had a problem with them. -

can you still get it in black though?

...saw these at the bike show (Clee Cycles), very very light but ....£90 for a front!
(site says silver only but they said they'd do black as well) -

Yes..
I got mine from the States and I think they've just released a full 105 groupset in black.
Yeah..

I have been looking into brakes for a new build
Would have loved to get a SRAM front brake but they are only available in pairs
So far I have found a few that come individually
Cane Creek 200SL
Cane Creek SCR-3
Dia-Compe BRS200
Promax 451AG Caliper
Shimano 105
Shimano Dura-Ace BR-7800
Shimano Ultegra BR-6600
This is by no means an exhaustive list - there is someone else who does them so much better.
What I was wondering is which brake would people suggest (yes am fully aware I could go brakeless but I am not that confident about doing so -possibly one for the shame thread).
I can see how other components really affect the handling of a bike, so probably a brake is not just a brake, so which are best and which offer value for money?
