Fillmore Bottom Bracket problems

Posted on
  • I bought my Fillmore from Brixton cycles earlier this year, and I absolutely love the bike. However, there is one thing that makes me slightly unhappy: For some reason the BB comes loose after a while, which results in a clicking noise on each revolution.

I was at the shop already, and they fixed it, but after a week or so the same stuff starts again.

Now I wonder what's the best way to address this. Shall I get a tool and tighten it up every now and then myself? How would I do that? What tools are needed?

Or should I get BC to change the BB for me.

How much does either solution cost?

  • from memory the fillmore have the hollow axle octalink outboard bearing BB like modern road bike. you need to get the tool, about £5. these cranks are really easy to set-up.

  • Which tool exactly? Don't wanna buy the wrong one :(

  • Need a whooooping bottom bracket tool, Dogs is right, its a hollow axle number. piss easy.
I got the tool if you are fkd. you need to whip the cranks out, and tighten the BB.
    so check list
Allen key to get the cranks off and this -

The bottom end is used to making pretty edges on pastry dishes...

  • Cool ...

Park tools the best option for that?

  • i've got one that is open at the end.

  • i have same problem...

i fix my bb once a week..

but it is too annoying .

    don't u have any solution????

  • might be better to get the shimano version of the tool as it has an open end so you dont have to remove the crank arm to tighten the BB cup. If your crank arms have a little 'star' type nut at the end of the axle, you use the plastic 'pastry edger' to preload the bearings before tightening the cranks proper. It may be that you need to loosten off the crank arm(s), preload the bearings properly and tighten arms again. It's likely that the arms will come loose after you first fit them as the bearings bed in a little.

Outboard bearings are good, but from a fair bit of experience on 4X MTB's the real cheap units dont last well at all. Also might be a good idea to get the BB faced if it isn't, the outboard bearings are more prone to wear if they don't sit exactly right against the shell.
