  • The only other forum I've ever posted on will be celebrating it's 10th birthday soon. No one ever meets, it was established as a slightly snobbish private music forum, and to an outsider it's probably the most vicious, insulting place on earth. But that's the beauty of forums. You get them or you don't, it's not real life. There are about 20 regular posters, and recently someone stumbled upon it. They got the jist and now they're a valued contributer. Breaking into online communities isn't exactly a piece of piss, but it's much easier than doing it in real life, as long as you've got your smarts about you and a damn good sense of humour.

    Circlejerk.com?

  • I'm a noob, but I know how forums work, I'm a veteran of many. I do a search before posting anything, I read a lot without posting and I respect people that have been here a lot longer than me. And occaisionally I try to crack a joke

  • WTF has Gordon Nostril got to do with anything? :^]

  • I'm American, and I'm here to cause problems. now shine my boots for a shilling, I'm over paid, over laid and over here

But are you American, or Amuhrican?

  • That's fugly. Can I put it on ignore?

It may as well be, the worthless numptys.

  • I meant the close up of that hairy snoz, not you, unless it's your hairy snoz

if you don't like it you could always picket…

    taxi!

  • Hitler was a meat pie.

  • I meant the close up of that hairy snoz, not you, unless it's your hairy snoz

I know, an no it's not..

  • What is going on? Is the world fragmenting? Do I need to get busy posting again? Yeah you'd like that wouldn't you.. filthy bitch.. oh nothing.. no nothing.. you too.. kisses.

Alright spunky. No it's much the same here. Apart that is from tynan's public breakdown on the intifada thread and the sudden appearance of religious zealotry in the same place.
To be fair, I think some of them may well be victims of the credit crunch forced out of the city. Mammon has forsaken them, drugs rejected them years ago - you can guess the rest... :-(

  • if you don't like it you could always picket…

    taxi!

    Ithankyou

  • you been away Hippy?

  • Tsk! Haven't you missed him?

  • yeh, but I was too shy to say so.

  • What music you into Crispin?

Anything in the Top 40 and Black Dice.

  • My feelings are hurt..

Wait.. no, that's just sobriety knock knock knocking on hippy's door..

I was in Wales. I had a great time. I got back to work. I now hate the world again.

  • Its funny, i have been riding SS for years, and fixed on and off for most of that, but had never really noticed any culture of Fixsters/Hipsters etc etc, probably because i live out west and you can go days without seeing another fixed rider - it never occurred to me that there would be a forum like this, and i only stumbled upon it when searching the internet for a powdercoaters in London, and Armourtex on here was one of the first results - having been on the forum it has exposed me to a whole other world of riding, most of my riding friends look at me as some sort of eccentric/mad professor when i bring out my fixed bikes, but here i found a place where you can more often than not spout shit all day to like minded souls if you so wish - it also made me intrigued to venture out east (somewhere i have rarely been since my messy younger years in the mid 90's at Tyson St in Dalston) and i was amazed at the amount of fixed gear riders there, but also amazed at the amount of them who seemed to have no clue what they were doing, and where clearly the bike was an accessory first, transport second (controversial maybe, but that was my initial reaction).

I have only been a member for about 6 months or so, but even between when i joined up (i think i am around the 2000th member) the forum has changed, not necessarily for the worse, but i remember thinking when i joined, fuck, everyone on here knows each other! Now it seems some know each other, but the majority don't.

The best thing for me about the forum however, is the social aspect - if you have never gone to drinks you should, because their is such a wide range of characters and opinions all united by a love of one cog, and that too me is what makes this forum great, that its not just a faceless internet site, but a real community that more often than not rallies to the help of others - the problem for newbs is quite often that they don't realize how many members know each other through drinks, and as such the off the cuff "cunt, fucker, hipster" abuse is mostly harmless banter.

Ultimatelythe forum is a victim of its own success, in that it is probably the greatest database of fixed gear/ss info on the net, hell google most fixed related topics and LFGSS is always near the top of the list, so inevitably people will log on to ask questions that we have all heard before . . .

    Anyway - i am rambling!

    good man, quaality craic

  • Guys, I think my eyes or brain must be going. Somebody calling themself 'lpg' has just neg-repped me on this thread as a 'grammer nazi' (sic). Try as I might I can't find any evidence of my pedantry on this thread, still less of 'lpg's involvement in the discussion.
Am I missing something do you think? Or doesn't Jesus want me for a sunbeam?

  • I'm readying my stones..

  • the new forum is a scary place.
I need to get foetal before I log in.

  • I've been posting from the crackberry while waiting in a police station.. can't see any of your stupid avatars.. and it's so slow I can't read most of the useless shit you post.. I love technology :)
