BBC radio finally give us the option of a WHOLE STATION dedicated to a less mainstream brand of playlist/humour/banter, and they stick this numpty on it. It's nothing personal, he has his style and is clearly made for things like commercial radio and presenting Big Brother's Little Brother. But interviewing Ray Davies on 6Music with 'complete this sentence...' questions is hardly putting him to the best use.
For sure. I can see why people don't get along with him... And good answer. Ta.

yeah same here. then on getting home crank up mark riley on 6 while chopping veg, having a beer or whatever. then after eating do the washing up to more of the hapless boy lard or gideon coe after that.
saturday mornings are all about adam and joe till it's time to go out and do whatever plus you've got russell howard and steven merchant on sundays if you're at home.
i don't have a fsking clue what's in the top 10 either as i haven't listened to radio 1 or watched saturday morning kids tv for about 15 years.
i always make time for the best bits of 6 music tho. i just love it man. i love that most of shows have their own very different agendas and identities (indie/folk/country/americana/rock/metal/reggae/funk/soul/unsigned/vinyl collecing/WHATEVER) and a totally free rein to play what they like within their own loose remits. i dig that they don't discriminate between great old stuff and great new stuff. i like that the audinece is small enough that if you contact any dj you'll usually get a response, if not on air at least a friendly email or text back from the djs. check out any one of lardy boy's playlists:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/marc_riley/tracklisting.shtml
i reckon riley is the only candidate even remotely worthy to be considered in the same ball park as peel. i've found so much new stuff though that show.
getting a digital radio a few years back totally rekindled my love with music again.
sorry to labour the point but lamb's repertoire of lame as fuck catchphrases, playlist of plodding mainstream indie, apparently boundless ignorance of the wider woirld of music and thouroughly offensive treatment of many interviewees just does not work on that station.
EDIT - guy garvey is great too. and bob dylan when they have his theme time radio hours. even lamacq isn't too bad (apart from his britpop obsession. LIVE IN THE NOW STEVE!) plus there's documentaries like the extended pet sounds one the other day... yep - thank fuck for 6 music basically. i'd long since given up on radio after the capital takeover of XFM, when after LBC went talk; but 6 got me back into radio in a big way. can't really imagine life without it now.

[quote]Don't know mark Riley? I caught the Mark Radcliffe and Marconie(?) driving a few weeks back - Radio 2. Isn't Gideon Coe also in a band?

mark riley used to be the "lard" of "mark (radcliffe) and lard" fame on radio 1. they did an excellent studenty-targetted evening spot in the early-mid 90s followed by a stint of the more mainstream breakfast show and a long running afternoon slot too i think.
riley was one the original and longest serving members of the fall and is genuinely one of the most likeable and knowledgable people i've ever come across. totally self depreciating and clearly still very humbled to be able to do what he does.

Twice, am I right? I'm glad we don't have to listen to him at home, at least.... 'yeah, I know' is the most irritating thing he does (Lamb, not Matt...).
