I almost died on my way to work this morning as well! Noticed a black cab hammering straight for me (on my side of the road) and had to pull a quick "just in time" manoeuvre into the gutter to avoid flying over his windscreen head-on.
A lady cyclist pulled up behind me at the next set of lights and said, "I thought you were dead, then. Nice move to escape though..."Didn't need a coffee after that.
To compound my bad luck today, I came out of the gym and found some fucking numpty had locked a women's Raleigh shopping bike to the railing over the top of my fuji, right through my frame. I waited 90 minutes in the cold in vain, then left an angry note and got on the bus.
Don't think it was the old "lock a stolen beater and come back later with hacksaw" trick, the bike was too new. will find out tomorrow if my bike is gone :/

It definitely seemed like one of those mornings. Lots of 'larger than normal car' type vehicles were driving too fast for a built-up area whilst partially on my side of the road, and didn''t seem to care if I was riding wide to pass a parked car (if they actually saw me).
Drivers are particularly prone to nearly causing head-on collisions with cyclists whilst having to deal with the scandalous imposition of passing other cyclists on their side of the road. And slowing down or stopping is clearly out of the question for them. That would be madness.
Sorry about the numpty lock merchant.

yeah, today was one of those days. much anger I sensed on the roads..

BMMF it's near your place actually, in Barbican. Should've come over and borrowed a hacksaw, and saved myself an hour of boredom and a night of worry.

everyone's shitting themselves about the economy.
-
• #32
i've also sensed drivers are more impatient than ever. maybe it's stress.

Not quite everyone.

many people. pedant!

I wan't being pedantic but merely pointing out that some of us poor souls have to take advantage of the general economic gloom but suffer when everyone else booms.

let me guess, you're either a careers counsellor or a repo man...

i had two close calls in one day today as well. actually hit a polo turning left who didn't look, luckily i was totally fine and all ... but there must have been something in the air today.

I'm not sure that careers counsellors are having that easy a time. What carreers can they recommend? There must be a limit to the number of people to whom they can suggest switching to being repo men. I also suspect that repo men may be busy but the money available from second hand repossessed goods is going to be marginal.
Luckily I am neither of those.

Thing is, you saw the danger coming and reacted before it happened, so repped for that
I got buzzed by a taxi today, close and fast. Think I had been annoying him

Eddie izzard;
back then when I was in school the career advisor told me "I advised you to get a career, what else can I do?"

Big rep, it doesn't matter how careful you are there will always be somebody who's not looking, I think it's common sense when cycling.

Should have entered it with the last post, whenever I'm riding I assume everyone else is a moron. I know there are others that **may **disagree but thats how it is, in my opinion.

down here in Brighton the main liability is acually other cyclists.

I got knocked off a very similar scenario in July last year, the guy came off the roundabout didn't see me and I just remember looking round and thinking "fooking hell, he is well close". Next thing I remember is being carted off in the ambulance, with the driver crying his eyes out saying "he just appeared out of no where".
I am paranoid of rounabouts now, think death is waiting for me on each one.

It was undeniably your fault in this instance, I'm afraid.
It's the responsibility of the cyclist to double check destination co-ordinates before teleporting. Come on, this is basic stuff.

the driving in France is very poorly, however they have good respect to cyclists.
Err, I've lived in Paris since May and I can say that is complete bollocks!

Whilst riding in London I have noticed a worryingly high amount of drivers that leave a perfectly good parking space whilst still carrying on their mobile phone conversations. Is it not blindingly obvious to stay parked a bit longer and finish the call??? Last night on the way home some dick in a left hand drive car on Adelaide rd nearly wiped out a cyclist because he was turning out of a side road and chatting on his mobile and couldn't control his motor properly. What the hell are people thinking??? His reg was 586 DAB, if you see him watch out!

- Halfway across the roundabout I see traffic coming from my left, too fucking fast as ALWAYS, so I keep my eyes on it as always EVEN THOUGH I SHOULDNT FUCKING HAVE TO.
I've learnt to always do this at major roundabouts even though as you say 'Shouldn't fucking have to'
Elephant & Castle roundabouts are hectic and have to be right on your toes - Halfway across the roundabout I see traffic coming from my left, too fucking fast as ALWAYS, so I keep my eyes on it as always EVEN THOUGH I SHOULDNT FUCKING HAVE TO.
do you want to start the collection?
