    i have only what i would call a bottom bracket disaster !!

    Tonight i tried to adjust my Miche Primato by shifting it slightly to the right to get a better chainline...

    however....

    using this tool and rotating the driveside (RH)cup (english thread) anticlockwise (that the right way to loosen isn't it ?) i sheared all the splines !!!

    It was totally jammed, leveraging it with a foot long adjustable it still didn't budge.

    I now have the arduous task of removing this bastard thing, but how ? i have no way of turning it.

  • sing to it.

  • hang on, is the tool jammed to the BB here?

  • rotating the driveside (RH)cup (english thread) anticlockwise (that the right way to loosen isn't it ?)

    No. ;_;

    nope. the splines on the cup are just shreded off

  • No. ;_;

    thing is, i checked the thread on another BB (the side that says RH) to see what direction it goes and that indeed is the direction that it goes to loosen it... apparently

  • nope. the splines on the cup are just shreded off

    well can you get the other side out?

  • well can you get the other side out?

    the other side is welded also....i tried already but gave up before that gets shredded also...

    im not in luck with this BB it seems. Major pain in the arse.

  • drive side should loosen when turning clockwise.

    english bb's thread in (tighten) when the cups rotate in the direction as if the wheels were going backwards, and loosen as if they're rolling forward. if that makes sense to you...

  • drive side should loosen when turning clockwise.

    english bb's thread in (tighten) when the cups (top of cup?) rotate toward the rear wheel, and loosen when they turn towards the front. if that makes sense to you...

    double damn...
    i've just cocked it up then...
    why is is it so hard to remember the direction of threading ?

    damnit.

  • just looking at my old SKF BB though, the driveside, the cup that says RH on it,
    has anticlockwise to loosen threading on it... wtf ? ?
    that's why i turned the Miche BB that way to begin with. Thats weird !

  • Dylan. take it to SBB matt and pay* him to sort it out - you need tools to sort this out.

    *plead

  • you could try clamping the outside of the cup to a bench-vice and try rotating the bike.
    Or drilling out the axel & using a jigsaw to cut the stuck shell (you will probably need to re-thread as this method will destroy some threads)

    Regardless of the bashing that Miche BB's have had on this forum I managed to get a pretty good chainline on the missus bike even after mashing the thread slightly..... put the tool down have a breather and get back to it, it's not as tough. Hope this reads well without sounding patronising, just the way it worked for me.

  • Stick it in a door then fall over your bike. It works for me every time.

    Tight(en towards the) rear-end (of the frame)

  • I read this once never had to do it myself, but apparently to hold the tool in place on the splines.
    You can feed a quick release axle for a wheel through the BB and use a washer to hold the tool in place, then get at it with both hands on the spanner.
