why clearcoat on top of powder-coated. if you get gloss white, it will be as shiny!

PM sent...

sounds like you are talking about armourtex. The clearcoat is far glossier than the straight powder and makes the whole finish more durable. i have some bars and possibly some other bits i'd like done white and so would contribute, but not half of that cost. if someone else would come into the deal dragon's den style then we'd be away... exactly which white by the way?

Well I need a frame and forks coating, so don't mind paying a fair proportion of the cost. Don't mind if there's no lacquer - it's for my geared training bike so it doesn't have to be shiny shiny. For the money it doesn't matter too much though.

Yup i got a frame i want Powdercoated white too . . . when i last when uo there they only charged me a tenner to do some bits matt black, but they did it on the proviso that i was happy to wait for the next time they had a frame to do in the same finish.

Bummer. About 3 days too late. My brother's having a frame powder coated in white.
But not at Armourtex. I told him to take it there, but he wouldn't listen and took it to a local one in Kent. I hope they don't fuck it up.

what are the advantages of powerder coating over a normal respray?

I once had the misfortune to work in this trade.
Traditionally bike frames were stove enamelled (that is sprayed with wet paint then baked at 120 degrees C. to cure) A final coat of lacquer was used because it gave a better gloss that standard full gloss paint, and it 'sealed' any transfers.
Unless things have improved in the past 10 years, which I doubt, powder will not give as good a finish as wet paint, although it* may *be more durable if properly applied.
What I've seen of Mario Vaz's work looked fine.

I have had several frames and bits done my Armoutex, and if you are after a single colourway they cant be faulted, and are very helpfull and a pleasure to deal with
Their finishes are as good as i have seen from powdercoating and very durable, especially if you have the frame clearcoated after , having experimented with other suppliers in my other hobby of custom motorbikes, i will not be using anyone else again.

Doesn't look like Armourtex will do that (or that it can easily done at all).

Sorry to hijack thread, but I'm in a bit of rush to get this done during half-term (I work in a school).
I'm looking to get my bike powder-coated and lacquered at Armourtex, coloured Raleigh red (like this http://www.frankencycle.com/images/red%20raleigh.JPG).
Anyone want to join me and share the costs?
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the object must conduct electricity. Which would be fine if you had a graphite frame
-

Do graphite frames exist?! Graphite is good for drawing, not sure if the same applies to bikes...
I've got some forks that I want to get powder coated in white and then lacquered. I've found a place in Hackney that will do it but they have a minimum charge of £45 for a powder coat and an extra £15 for lacquer.
If anyone's got a frame or something they want to get powder coated in white, we could share the cost.
PM me if you're interested :)
