Bottom bracket trouble

okay help needed

the axle on my BB is sliding from side to side by a good inch. whatever holds that in place has gone. New BB purchased but cannot for the life of me find out how to take the old one out.

the bike is an old 60's viscount and one shop thinks it might be an old french job where it screws on the inside of the bb itself (don't ask)

pic coming when i work out how to attach it

there are no teeth or holes to put a spanner or tool to undo or tighten it.

so if anyone has come across this before please let me know what to do about it.

here is a pick of said BB. bike fix on lambs conduit said they'd take care of it but before they do i need to know if it needs to be replaced by a similar BB and if so where i can get them from.
