watch out for those cheeky fuckers driving the bendy busses 2 of them one behind the othe thought it was a good idea to squish me inbetween them on essex road today, so i swiftly cut outside to the opposite direction lane put on some pace and spat on his window.
I HATE BUSES AND THE DRIVERS

bus-bike accidents are surprisingly low considering we both have to share the same bit of road. buses/cabs/motorbikes i have no problem with. (except that one bus driver, but that's another story.)

Some bus driver from Wigan (wiganwill, before you get all defensive - it said so on the side of the coach) nearly wiped me out twice in a 1km stretch last week. I knocked on the guy's window when he stopped to pick up some school kids and he was totally oblivious to how dangerous his driving was.
He had two lanes in which to drive - plenty room to pull over, but instead chose to brush past me, or didn't see me... twice!
Fuming, I was.

ah well.
as it seemed there was no chance of getting out of the sterotyping/sweeping generalisation thing when it comes to classifying other road users i suppose i thought i'd try and at least make a positive comment about one of those groups.
sod's law then that i got cut up and ended up arguing with a bus driver this morning.
i don't think that all bus drivers are wankers now. i don't think they're all great either. i still maintain that of all the other broadly defined groups of london road users that they're among the most considerate and aware of cyclists. the stats seem to back that up.
feel free to keep posting annecdotal evidence as to why your bad experience with a bus proves me wrong .
oh and i was one of the original 6 rickshaw riders in london who started the plague that now befouls the streets of soho. in fact, my name is even on the piece of legistaltion that made the whole thing legal. hahaha.

buses generally are ok I find, usually allow me to pass even if they are indicating etc.
However, black cabs can fuck me right off, one guy today tries to squeeze me out of his lane at a roundabout so i would be turning tucked up next to him and a bendy bus, i held my line so that he had to stay behind me, which resulted in him overtaking me 100m later shouting wanker at me, purely cos i cycled aggressively and held my own. what a c*nt.

Great scene at Oxford Circus tube yesterday after work:
Middle aged cyclist in full high vis gear on a folder at the lights on Regent Street yelling at a black cab driver for a good 4 minutes (for what I did not see). The air was blue. It seemed he was releasing many years' of pent up rage at this one particular driver. I sympathised and silently wooh'ed him on. -

I thought this was a good thread dooks, and I would actually agree with you - bus drivers in central London I have found to be largely sensible creatures. But then I only ride about 7 miles a day, which is hardly any distance really, so what do I know. I think it's in the suburbs where both bus and car drivers are worse (I think it gets worse the further you get from city centres) - they are much less aware there. Drivers in central London seem much more aware of cyclists. For example, my boyfriend rides from E2 to Tottenham Hale every day and I feel that he has far more run-ins with unaware drivers than I do in central London.
This thing about generalising road users I also agree with. You cannot lump all drivers of a certain type of vehicle together. You can still be a prick/should have been drowned at birth, and ride a bike. Similarly, you can be an excellent person and drive a car, cab, bus or HGV. Life is not black and white.
(I drive, although not in the last year, and I consider myself to be very considerate towards cyclists and other non-motorised traffic.)

I think you are correct. I had two close ones yesterday both withoin 2 miles of home in the burbs.
There is a stat somewhere which IIRC is that most accidents happen within two miles of your home. that may be motorcycle or all RTAs I can't remember.

+1
I often head up to North London at the weekend and I find that the scariest time on the road is Saturday afternoons when people are doing their saturday shopping/drive. Have had so many near misses with people opening doors on me, not indicating and driving erratically. effectively it's very difficult to predict other drivers behaviour. Commuters on the other hand tend to be more tuned in.

.That's a lie, that's a fucking outrageous lie, you fucking dishonest bastard, there's no way that happened, you must be off your head on drugs or drink or you're probably just jealous so you start making up fucking stupid stories, I bet it was your fault anyway you probably cut him up, NO WAY would a Wigan driver do that, people like you ruin the internet for everyone else. If I didn't live in London I'd come over to your house and do something, I'm not sure what, but something and you wouldn't like it you Jackanory Wigan hater. :)

i reckon most bus drivers are pretty good, they usually let me in and don't overtake me as i'm about to go around a parked car.
cabs, on the other hand...
