I think it's in the suburbs where both bus and car drivers are worse (I think it gets worse the further you get from city centres) - they are much less aware there.

I often head up to North London at the weekend and I find that the scariest time on the road is Saturday afternoons when people are doing their saturday shopping/drive. Have had so many near misses with people opening doors on me, not indicating and driving erratically. effectively it's very difficult to predict other drivers behaviour. Commuters on the other hand tend to be more tuned in.
