Using gears and deraillieurs ... I'm not considering the sturmey archer route. Yet!

The shifters and front mech need to be 'band on' as it's currently set up, if that's what you're asking about, Ant.

Actually I seem to have centred the wheel quite nicely using that method of tensioning made famous by MikeC at our last stop on the Southend ride... sitting behind bike with feet on pedals to pull wheel... a bit of twist... seems fine. I've heard about your cold-setting, doesn't it involve a bit of scaffold and jumping up and down on it!?

Band on means that you don;t have any bosses for gear paraphenalia, they just use bands to hold em on.
