i was going to post something along these lines the other day after a hectic end of rush hour hack home in the rain. i noticed on my ride home that of all the sweeping generalisations we tend to make about other road users, one stood out for me in a very positive way. busses. i've started to notice as a group how aware and considerate of cyclists most buss drivers are. that london paper article just prompted me to post this as it mentioned that the stats for bike/bus accidents were surprisingly low given the comparatively high numbers of each on the roads.
i just started to notice how they're often very considerate in sharing the bus lane with bikes, how as a rule they'll allow you to pass before pulling out then give you plenty of space when passing later. they seem to be much more aware of cyclists than any other group of road users i can think of. i don't think i've ever got into an argument with a bus driver and can think of a few occasions where i've ended up exchanging pleasantries with drivers at lights etc.
What is this? Satire?
