It's the most offensive word in the English language, and even though it's meaning has changed over time, it's still taboo, and you wouldn't (i hope!) use the word as thoughtlessly and as carelessly as you would any other word. Even if it is only a forum..
On a bigger, less obvious level, it will end up meaning different things to different people, causing divisions in an already highly fragmented and divided society. We still need to have words that shock people, because when they're gone, we won't have any left, and we'll be worse off for it.
Remember 1984!
