no they are not...they're different.

700's are 622, 27x1&1/4 are 630

if you don't have a brake on the wheel, surely the difference is negligible if your changing FROM 27inch TO 700c >?

as long as your brakes are adjustable so they can reach down to the rims of 700c wheels it'll be fine, although i'd probably recommend changing both wheels to 700c..

I ran a 27 1 1/4 wheel on the rear, and a 700c on the front of a frame designed for 700'c wheels.
It was an old raleigh 531 road frame. It sharpened the steering, raised the BB slightly, had lots of benefits and felt good to ride.

This, along with aiden's, post are the only sensible things here.
However, aesthetically, a frame built for 27" wheels is never going to look right wlith 700c'sTeenslain's post also makes sense

Hi folks,
Another (perhaps n00b type of) question on a similar subject. I just picked up a 700c rear wheel to go on my bike which currently has 27 inch wheels...
Since it's a touch smaller than the front 27 incher, thus making the bike tilt back a little, will this negatively affect the weight distribution or handling of the bike? (negatively enough for a non-pro type of guy to notice, that is)

Just ride it and see what happens... You now haz negative lo-pro steez...

i did this for a couple months and i didn't have any problems with it

The difference in radius is only 4mm so it will hardly make a difference. I ride a bike designed for 27" with 700c wheels without a problem, as long as you have a brake that can still reach the rim (if you use a brake).

cheers for the replies. good to put me mind at rest

The much smaller choice of tyres and the slightly longer brake drop required are the only noticeable differences. And the gap, for weird track-sniffing clearance-nutters. There are a few on here.
Wheelbase: c 1m. Decrease in rear wheel height 4mm. Change in (eg) angle of top-tube to road, er, er, couple of degrees. Weight distribution change: too infinitessimally small to measure. Get on it and ride the fucking thing!
hi all , i have a 27 by 1.25 inch wheel which buckled on satarday, i was just wondering if both 700c and 27 inch whells are the same sixe.
thanks
