define 'really expensive'
The variations of the formula hubs are available from many places under many names. Most people use them and they are decent enough, prices range from £15-£30
I run suzue 'basic' track hubs, which are hipolished look awesome. They are open bearing with inferior seals for the street. But I they are still spinning supe smooth for me and I love them.
Cost around £45 a pair from danscycleworkshop on ebay.
Alternatively for around £50 you could probably pickup an echo fixed gear trials hub with awesome splined sprocket system, or a for a bit more you could probably hunt down a goldtech.
